“Agility and Business Process Management (BPM)” Please respond to the following:

•Suppose that an organization did not use processes that were designed and built to be agile, particularly when it comes to IS / IT technologies. Predict the impact of environmental changes on an organization financially, socially, and in terms of survivability.

An organization that did not utilize processes that were designed and built to be agile will find that the organization will have difficult time being able to survive. The processes the organization used will eventually become outdated and restrict the organizations permanency. Companies utilize IS/IT technologies to be able to achieve a competitive advantage over its competition. Failure to be able to adapt as business changes will be a crucial issue for an organization. This will lead to the organization losing revenue. An organization that is not built to be agile can loss customers, since many customers today utilize social trends to make purchases. A company’s ability to keep up with today’s ever changing business environment will allow an organization to maintain stability and have longevity.

•A BPM model may help manage and streamline IT processes that are otherwise manually executed. Examine one enterprise manual process (i.e., purchase order approval) and propose two BPM models that would replace the process. Determine the IT resources that you would employ to automate the process (i.e., electronic documents instead of paper documents).

Manufacturing purchasing is a process that requires managing and streamlining IT processes. It is vital that an organization have the materials and supplies needed to accomplish their specific business endeavor. If the materials and supplies are not available or have not been properly ordered it can substantially hurt a company. Use case modeling is a BPM model that will allow the organization to know the individual who will be making the manufacturing purchases. Use case modeling utilizes interactions between systems and users. A second model is business process model and notation (BPMN). BPMN assist in connecting communication breakdowns which can occur between the different departments within an organization. The IT resources needed are software, hardware, workstations (desktop and laptop), and IT specialist to implement the process.
