Apple and its Future

Apple’s recent past has been one successful one. However, to look at it that way is being very brief. As asserted by (McClure, 2012), Apple started long ago in the near beginning of computing age together with other Silicon Valley pioneers who had interest in technology. It started with its first generation products that didn’t do well because there was then the tech giant IBM. It continued with its founder Steve jobs and Steve Wozniak developing home based computers and later moved to the digital music industry in the early 2000. This was also so successful in comparison to the competition that was in the market by then. This could be attributed to Steve Jobs knowledge in the Hollywood life when he worked there and therefore knew what the consumers wanted. There were similar technologies then but Apple through the leadership of Steve Jobs revolutionized it. 2007 would go down in the history of apple. It was the year they launched their first iPhone. It was a combination of the iPod, a phone and fully functional internet the forgetting the multitude of applications which brought stiff competition to the market. This product was and is still so successful that it brought some corporate giants like Blackberry it its knees.

With all that in mind, Apple has clearly been from a past that was uncertain to a recent past that is full of glory and honor. It prides itself of revolutionizing the digital age and not necessarily inventing a lot from it. Their key issue is about revolutionizing. An example of revolution they made is the mouse. Steve jobs took a mouse from its early days and in primitive less functional component to a device that is very essential in a computing work station across all platforms. Another product where Apple has also revolutionized is their most successful product of all time according to (Isaacson, 2011), is the iPhone. At that time and before 2007, there were smart devices but not cutting edge like the ones that apple introduced into the market. BlackBerry then RIM had its own very stylish and corporate in nature blackberry range of smartphones. It offered full email other corporate functions and experiences all under one phone. It failed to connect to the common man on the ground. Like someone who want a whole bunch of music. Apple saw an opportunity here. They brought in full smartphone experienced with simplified functionality. They offered what RIM now blackberry offered together with other services like music, advanced Google maps software and music that attracted everyone to Apple’ s ecosystem (Sutherland, 2012). Apples future is clearly uncertain. It will depend on the new products that are already in the market for them to develop even further and make it relevant or more of a revolution as some might say.

Competition in each and every market is very healthy and normal. In the past, there has been competition and apple managed to win it. The days of IBM and other big technology giants were rough for a company like apple but they managed to win it at some point when considered vividly (Sutherland, 2012). Companies like Google, Microsoft and Samsung are the ones that are giving Apple a run for their money to invest more in technology. The only thing that is keeping people on focusing and staying with Apple is their ecosystem which locks people on it. They also have a loyal fan base which is good and healthy for a company. This can be seen in the recent iPhone 6 launch which Apple managed to sell several iPhones, 10 million, in only one weekend despite the fact that android equipment manufacturers have been offering this for long. This two will keep the company survive the competition. From all these, it is clear that apple has increased its share of the market place not from its own expense.

Steve Jobs played a very important role from the days of start of apple. He has been credited with bringing apple up when it was down and responded diligently to the market needs (Dormehl, 2012). When he died, there was uncertainty weather apple will continue being the front runner in revolutionizing the digital age. This is because Steve Jobs was considered the father of it all. Following his demise, a lot has not gone right with Apple in the recent past. There are many several instances when Apple has not paid attention to detail as Steve Jobs would. The first instance was when Apple’s mapping system was launched. It was purely not functional. It wasn’t something from a company of Apple’s caliber and surprisingly, it came from them. The second instance was when it failed to respond to the big screen revolution brought about by Samsung. Though they responded to this this late which is this year with the iPhone 6 plus. The other incident is when they released a software update that rendered the iPhone useless. iOS 8.0.1. This was something that Steve Jobs could never do. He paid attention to detail. Apple’s success solely depends on those responsible if they will learn from their mistakes or not.
