BOS 3125 Unit VI Case Study

3(a). Training was not interesting to the workers as it was very theoretical. It was including the description of products that are hazardous and MSDS. The workers were losing their interest in this training information. Workers were not use to listen to MSDS in day to day activities.

  1. In order to bring the company into compliance, I will take following steps:
    1. The chemicals that are made by the company are on the regular basis is maintained in safety data sheet.
    2. All the packages of the chemicals have printed Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) whenever it is delivered to any vendor
    3. All the hazardous chemicals manufactured by the company should be in the knowledge of each and every employee.
    4. All the employees should be aware of the effects of the chemicals that they are using on a daily basis.
    5. Disaster management plan should be well communicated to all the workers and provide proper training to them with this regard.
    6. 2(a).Labeling on the pipes and tanks is very important. In case of absence of labeling on them is a big problem. For maintaining the Hazard Communication standard, it is very important to have labels on containers of the chemicals and their transmitting channels. It also helps the workers to understand their working environment. Whenever there is situation of explosion or leakage, these labels will help them in identifying the best method to have a control over the situation and identifying best escaping route.
    7. 2(b). Following properties should be possessed by the labels:
    8. Product Content
    9. Information of the company
    10. Product’s nature
    11. Environmental behavior of the product such as the pressure and temperature
    12. Effects while on contact with human body
    13. Advice at the time of disaster
    14. 3(b). I will try to use practical knowledge and demonstration in the future trainings. It will help the workers understand the product’s chemical properties by enhancing their interest. When the reactions and effects of chemicals will be shown live to the worker, they will have more interest and will concentrate more on the training.

4(a). I will send the chemical to the laboratory for detecting its name. Once the chemical is known then number of sources are available such as online or encyclopedia which may help in understanding the chemical property of the chemical such as its use, storage and disposal.

4(b). Without the proper identification of the chemical, it is difficult to say whether it is hazardous or not. Every chemical has its own property. Few are odorless, colorless and will not show any property of being hazardous immediately. Before drawing any conclusion about the chemical and taking risk, examination report from the laboratory should be awaited.

      5. Only name of the chemical is known and the container is too large, I will report it to officials of the company. It is the responsibility of the officials to label the container with the immediate effect with accurate MSDS. Not only this container but all the containers of this type should be treated on same grounds. It is also the responsibility of the company to check for correct chemical name and verify what is written on the container.
