Where does training fit within safety and health problem solving?
Your response must be at least 75 words.
When considering the safety and health problem solving organizations today too often turn to a training first mentality. This should not be the case. When thinking about the safety and health of workers an organization should turn to the hierarchy of controls. In the case of training it would fall under the administrative controls so companies should first consider elimination controls, substitution control, ergonomic controls, and then fourth on that hierarchy is administrative controls, (Haight, 2012).

Why is it important for health and safety training to be integrated with an organization’s safety and health program?
The reason it is important for health and safety training to be integrated with an organization’s safety and health program is due to its ability to assist an organization in considering and utilizing higher-order controls such as elimination controls, substitution control, ergonomic controls to solve occupational health and safety (OSH) problems. Workers typically have excellent process knowledge, when combining this knowledge with OSH education it can drive organization thinking. Of course, the organization needs adequate communication channels and a high level of trust within its culture for this to occur, (Haight, 2012).

What is the difference between education and training?
Your response must be at least 75 words.
The difference between education and training in simple terms is education is teaching individuals “about” a specific subject, skill or task. Education on the other hand is focusing on learning “how” to do or complete a specific task, skill. An example given in our text book was “Training in Hazardous communication typically focuses on how to read MSDSs and labels, handle common chemicals in one’s work area, and recognize upset situations with in the process. Education in hazardous communication could focus on the historical perspectives and examining case studies of OSHA fins on hazardous communication in similar industries, (Haight, 2012).
