INTRO!

Why is software installation & testing important? As a team we will list and explain the different methods of software installation, testing, and our preferred software installation approach.

Software Installation Methods

Direct – Changing over to a new one by turning off the old system.Parallel – Running the old information system and the new one at the same time.Single-Location – Trying out a new information system at one site before deploying at all sites.Phased – Changing from the old information system to the new one incrementally.

Why is testing software important?

Software testing is required to point out any defects or errors that were made during the development phases. Additional reasons are:Avoid costly development changes in the future.Collect/provide information for next dev phase.Verify and validate the clients requirements.Gain customer confidence by delivering a quality product to stay in business

The seven different types of tests

Software application testing is an umbrella term that covers several types of testing:

Let’s review of some key testing concepts:

InspectionsA testing technique in which participants examine program code for predictable language-specific errors.

Walk-ThroughsThe use of structured walk-throughs is a very effective method of detecting errors in code

Desk CheckingA testing technique in which the program code is sequentially executed manually by the reviewer.

Syntax CheckingSyntax checking is typically done by a compiler. Errors in syntax are uncovered but the code is not executed.

Unit TestEach module is tested alone in an attempt to discover any errors in its code.

6

Integration of Systems The process of bringing together all of the modules that a program is comprised of for testing purposes. Typical Integration is in a top-down, incremental fashion.
