Mass Media Messages and Effects Topic

Mass media organizations distribute their opinions and findings to a substantial amount of people in the World. The information the mass media sends out to the public audience has been known to shift our focus and transform our minds almost instantly. In this paper I will analyze the attitude effect that mass media messages have on our society. I will focus on four sections I believe are the topics that will truly explain the attitude effects: influencing opinion, role models, stereotypes, and agenda-setting and status conferral. Our society uses attitude effects to repeat history itself in politics, fashion and style, and stereotypes.

People change their minds on political stances based on ads that are being ran on television throughout the election period. So many young individuals seek out a role model after graduating high school without even realizing it. Stereotypes that are passed down generation after generation are harmful to our society, and can be preserved by the mass media. Selective reporting on issues that normally would not be spotlighted can affect your attitude and also be eye-opening. Mass media can give ideas, inspire, and persuade. It is not considered an opinion that mass media is influential on society, but rather a fact. It shapes and molds our society, and has substantially impacted our attitudes.
