Patient Confidentiality

Patient confidentiality should be broken if serious harm or death can be caused to other individuals. Prima Facie theorist, adhering to good unless serious reasoning not to, would break confidentiality and make individuals aware in order to protect them from harm or death. Individuals should have the right to know that they are at risk, receive counseling, testing and/or medical treatments to help with any prevention. The Kantian theorist may argue that individuals have a right to patient confidentiality and doctors have a duty to them. They disagree because doctors have a duty to protect their patient privacy and protect them from any form of discrimination that may be caused by disclosure of health (Lin and Liang, 2019). If doctors have a duty of care to abide by, then they should agree with Prima Facie and make individuals aware in order to protect them from harm or death.
