Checkpoint for Certification Plan

Every success requires some level of planning (Lyle-Edrosolo & Waxman, 2016). Success in examinations, mainly the PMHNP certification examination requires adequate preparation in regards to having a study plan as well as being financially prepared. In this practicum journal, I will assess the progress on the plans for certification by examining what I have done to be prepared for certification, besides elaborating on my plans to do what is remaining to stay on schedule.

In Week 1, my intention was to apply for the certification examination online and take it three months (90 days) following the application (Lyle-Edrosolo & Waxman, 2016). Applying online is more comfortable as well as fast considering that it takes a shorter approval period than other approaches (Lyle-Edrosolo & Waxman, 2016). Following the application of the certification examination online, my registration was approved two weeks later.

What is more, various credentials are required during the application process (Lyle-Edrosolo & Waxman, 2016). In light of this, in week 1, I explained that I would be having all the necessary credentials a month before the application, something I was not able to achieve until a week before the application. Nonetheless, better late than never because during the application, I was able to present all the required credentials and therefore, the chances of turning down my application were negligible.

Besides the application and the needed credentials, some amount of fee is also paid to the examination body (Lyle-Edrosolo & Waxman, 2016). My proposed plan in Week 1 was to pay for the exam charges using some of my savings as well as contributions from my parents. Luckily, a week prior to the registration, I had all the money needed for the registration, and I was able to pay in time as I had intended earlier. Two weeks later, my application was approved.

The approval of the application meant that I had to sit for the certification exam 90 days after. As such, I had to plan on how to utilize these three months to ensure that I have covered all the materials required to pass the exam. Initially, I planned to use six hours of study each day for five days, a plan I realized was not working well later in the subsequent weeks. With six hours, five days a week, I realized that it was not possible to cover the necessary material and that could be risky as it could fail the exam. Therefore, to try to catch up with time, I decided to include the weekends in my study plan, studying four hours on Saturday and three hours on Sunday. Besides, I have purchased numerous pertinent videos that I will use to cover some course areas and save me the time to read a lot of books. Until now, the inclusion of the weekends and related videos in my study plan is promising in that; I have been able to cover most of the relevant course material for the exam. With time and with the present pace, I could even finish covering the course material before the expected date and have some time to relax and wait.

Decisively, following minor adjustments and additions, my study plan appears to be working perfectly. Following additional hours during the weekends and the videos, I am sure of completing covering the syllabus even before time. What is more, I have already been approved to take the exam, and therefore, I can only carry on implementing my plan to ensure that I pass the exam to become certified.
