Case Study 2

The aerospace and defense department of Infosys is designed to deliver to their client’s solutions related to the air and defense industry. Those solutions relate to aircraft parts, reusability, and improvement to technology. According to Infosys “The client required a design of interior monuments with the objective of maximum reusability, low turnaround time (TAT) and stress substantiation of aircraft interiors. Common interior monuments designed based on customer requirements include divan, storage cabinets, closet, credenza, Passenger Service Unit (PSU), and Return Air Duct (RAD)” .

The common problem that the business encounters is that the environment is never stable and materials change all the time. The equipment and parts are “unique in nature with aesthetic, stress and manufacturing requirements”. The key point to understanding the problem is understanding the crucial points of the hardware. Installing and mounting hardware at different points produces different issues. Another issue is the analysis of individual parts where the load varies compared to the stress.

The IT solution that provided a solution to the problem was included in the business model would be a database management system. Now, data can be moved to the cloud depending on the provider. Or, an information system can be developed to track and monitor the use of each individual part for service. The most important solution for aerospace defense is reusability. This is important because it is too expensive and time consuming to develop and create new parts on a consistent basis.

The benefits of having an information system manage aerospace and defense products are greater range of management. According to Infosys “a master document with Margin Of Safety (MOS) calculations for all components used in the aircraft plumbing systems, which save over 70% efforts in future plumbing systems substantiation” . This document was created with the assistance of database management. Not only was this document created using an IT solution but, the IT solution was able to help with managing the equipment.

IT solutions for aerospace defense is extremely important because it helps revolutionize an organization. According to Sparta Systems “Sparta offers aerospace and defense manufacturers unique solutions that optimize quality, ensure compliance, reduce risk, and lower costs by centralizing processes into a single, integrated system”. Reduced costs if a major factor in the continuing success of Aerospace Defense. Reduced costs allow the company to allocate additional funds to areas that need the right attention.

The Enterprise Architecture component that could improve this business function was IT Strategy and Integration of IT goods and services.  It was a wise idea to integrate IT with the business because it enables corporations to keep up with 21st century standards.  According to Margaret Rouse “IT strategy is a comprehensive plan that information technology management professionals use to guide their organizations”.Another way that the business was able enhance services was the integration of IT goods and services. The integration of IT goods and services enabled the corporation to manage its individual products through a database.

With the implementation of an IT solution any company will see its business processes improve. IT solutions are an integral part of the 21st century and are very defining based on today’s technology. Competition is always looking for a means to get ahead of the business rivals. Companies must always remember to invest in the right ideas, utilize most innovative technology, and always ensure the employees are trained properly.
