Child & Elder Abuse

Abuse is witnessed with young children even to the elderly. Child abuse and Elder abuse sometimes goes undetected because they are not able to fend or speak up for themselves. Sadly, abuse can also come from their own family members. In the cases that I am, going to be researching is about a 15-month-old child and a 75-year-old woman who have suffered neglect and abuse by their own loved once which ended up causing them to pass away.

In the report of the young child, she had died due to the abuse that she was getting from her mother’s boyfriend. Juan Maravilla and Sarah Kairys were charged for the death of her 15 months old daughter. During autopsy, the medical examiner had found that the baby had encountered blunt force trauma to her head and torso. (Morales, 2018) The medical examiner had also noted that the baby had several injuries that were in the process of healing. While the mother was questioned, she had multiple versions of the story of what happened to her baby. When her boyfriend was originally questioned, he also came up with different versions as well. He initially said that he was not able to visit the home because he was a registered sex offender. Finally, they both confessed that the mother’s boyfriend was the one who was being abusive towards the baby – which led to her death. He explained that he got upset at the baby and smacked her – but stated that he did not mean to kill her.
