Introduction

Recommendation

  • Welcome and thank you for taking the time to allow me to speak to you regarding an app that would positively impact our district.
  • Folsom Cordova Unified School District has a need for a tool to increase our students’ learning experience, aid them in meeting graduation requirement and create revenue for the district.
  • Current legislation requires all students starting in 9th grade to have a Personal Learning Plan. This plan should include academic scheduling, career exploration, 21st Century Skills, community partnerships, college access, and experiential learning opportunities, California Department Graduation Requirements.
  • There are many benefits from this app, such as students gaining necessary skills preparing them for life. Stakeholders would benefit in many ways as well. I will discuss this in more depth later.
  • I will also discuss a Plan B should this app not be as well received as we anticipate.

Benefits

  • What is StudentDradTracker? Similar in function and navigation to Craigslist.com or Angie’sList.com, “StudentGradTracker” would fulfill a need for both our students and consumer. StudentGradTracker would have listings for projects that would put students on a fast track to accumulating his or her required community service hours.
  • This app would not only allow them to find and be matched with proper community service jobs, but it would also track how many community service hours they have accumulated thus far and how many they still need to go.
  • The proposal that is on the table encourages users to share opinions, participate in discussions and engage with others in real time.
  • Because high school students and social media go hand in hand, marketing through social media the best way to market StudentGradTracker.
  • It will also easily attract students, customer as well as allow the district to connect with our customers’ Social networks like Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn.
    • All of these forms involve the building of networks or communities by allowing users to interact with each other while providing cross-cultural and multinational interactions and opportunities.

Possible Impact

  • There are many benefits to implementing StudentGradTracker in our schools. It would fulfill a need for both our students and consumer. Students would have the latest technological knowledge integrated into their educational experience while also being afforded a hands on learning experience where they gain on the job training/job skills.
  • Students would learn 21st century learning skills as well as develop a personal learning plan, both a requirement for graduation and necessary once they are done with high school and seeking employment.
  • Student Grad would ensure students have a way to fulfill high school graduation requirements while keeping the district up to date on current technology.
  • From the fees charged, revenue will be generated, supporting student programs district wide. This will also enable the district to fund current programs as well as expand to meet larger needs and demands.
  • While ensuring the district stays up to date on the latest technology, the IT department would partner with our high schools to offer a course where students would help maintain and monitor the app. They would offer assistance via phone calls, IM or email to its users. They would help consumers troubleshoot through any technical issues they may be experiencing while utilizing the app.
    • This class would teach students highly sought after employability skills.

Plan B: Moving Forward

  • With all new things there are also risks involved with them. The district could end up having a major loss in profits after advertising an app that does not perform successfully. This, of course, wouldn’t be good for anyone, even the board members.
  • The district and the board would also loose the capital resources that were initially invested in the creation of the app.
  • The failure of the app could have a negative impact on our current customer base.
  • May cause current families to move out of our district.

Conclusion

  • Plan B Is intertwined in the initial plan as a failsafe. This will include a Trial Period for a year to work out bugs and allow our students in the AP course will be tasked with finding ways to market and sell our services to consumers.
  • The students will still have the course to help them build technological 21st century skills.

References

  • In conclusion, StudentGradTracker has many uses, benefits and potential outcomes for all involved. Due to the past paced changes mobile technology is changing the way students learn and how businesses communicate. 21st Century Learning skills are necessary for students as well as businesses.
  • Due to this rapid and evolving use of technology, my organization, a school district that strives to embrace the current trends of our society as well as provide students with the most current, relevant knowledge, this app would be a wise investment that would benefit all organization stakeholders.
  • Districts needs to expand and its IT department needs to move with it to support its increased revenue as well as create classroom opportunities and jobs.
  • Thank you for your time.
