Communication Challenges and Strategies

Businesses face many challenges when they hire first job employees to work in their organization. Because these employees are new to the workforce, many communication and group behavior issues will arise within the organization. First job employees lack work experiences and the ability to communicate in the workplace, therefore managers/leaders need to make sure that they have something in place to assist first jobs employees in becoming an active part of the organization. Developing strategies to help overcome first job communication and behavior issues will be beneficial to the employees and the organization. Whenever the workday begin and employees enter their workplace, there are always a possibility for communication and behavior problems to arise. When these problems occur, organization should be ready and willing to do what is necessary to find a solution to the problem. Organizations should have strategies that can be used to combat communication and group behavior issues that comes when they hire first job employees.

For first job employees, their first day on the job can be overwhelming and intimidating. They lack skills such as communication, problem solving, working with others, taking orders, and listening, that to other employees seems to be second nature. First jobs employees also lack the job communication skills, like knowing when there is a problem and who to go to when a problem arise because they do not possess the work history that their fellow employee have, which they learned for working. These first jobs employee also tend to form an opinion about their coworkers and managers before evens have a conversation with them. Doing this can sometimes cause those first job employees to have a lasting impact on their relationship with others in the workplace. When people assume, sometimes their assumption can be misleading and unwarranted. The lack of communication in the organization can have a negative affect on employee morale, employee performance, productivity, problem solving, etc. Anderson states that “effective communication creates organizational meaning. Organizational meaning produces the context in which the entire organization operates.” It is up to the leaders of organizations to help keep the flow of conversation moving throughout the daily work environment amongst the employees. Leaders should be able to communicate with ever employee at every level in the organization and also make those employees feel free to open up and communicate. According to Anderson, (2015) “what you say, the way you say it, and where, when and under what circumstances it is said, shape the performance culture. Leaders maximize their contribution by attending to the quality of daily conversation.” This is a good strategy to make sure that communication is always a part of the organization work system and that employees are involved in the daily conversations.

When first job employees enter the workforce, they really do not know how to communicate with other employees because of their limited knowledge about conversating on a job. They have no clue what to do if a problem comes up and some cannot hold a conversation with their fellow coworkers.These employees do not know what questions to ask or even if a question need to be asked. Furthermore, open and honest communication is a must in the survival of an organization. According to Levin, (2016) the lack of open and honest communication is a big problem because it’s not what people say, it is what they don’t say to each other. You can’t solve a problem if you don’t know about it and you cannot use an idea that nobody tells you about. Communicate so that all employees will know what is going on in the organization. I an organization is have problem getting products out, and the chain of communication is broken, the employees within the organization will not know what the actual problem is and not know the problem is, then it will be hard to find a solution to that problem. Also, if a problem fester amongst team members of an organization, those team members need to feel comfortable in that they are able to talk about what is am going on so that it will not affect the business as a whole. Communication is a two-way street and can pave the way for a better relationship among employees and lasting friendships.

A strategic plan to help with communication and group behavior issues is to create leaders engage authentically and, through example, encourage people to lean into moments of truth that crat an on-the-table culture. these leaders align people around common cause, deliberately create meaning, provide focus, reduce uncertainty, challenge excuses, learn from experiences, treat mistakes as intellectual capital, and leverage the power of leadership decisions to shape belief and behavior, (Anderson, 2015). Having a good leader that can lead a team by example and show them how to communicate correctly to get their point across will help employees solve problems and conflicts before they get out of hand. Having a strategy will make the problem solving process runs much easier because leaders have a step-by-step direction to handle these types of situation. The leaders of the organization can provide helpful information to employees about how to deals with issue in the organization. They can lead by example by communicating with employees on a daily basis to make sure that all employees have an understanding of what is expected of them and when it is expected.

In conclusion, communication is a keep factor in the success of any organization. Having open and honest communication will help organization avoid unnecessary problems within the organization because employees are confused about what they should be doing. Finding the right leaders for organizations is a key factor when it comes to solving communication and group behavior issues. Strategies can be put in place to help employees to communicate and voice their opinion about any issues they are having in the organization. These leaders have an impact first job employee by making them feel comfortable and part of the organization through communication.
