Curriculum Implementation

“Curriculum Implementation” Please respond to the following:

•Discuss at least three primary reasons people (administrators, teachers, parents, and / or students) often resist change, especially regarding the implementation of new technologies in educational settings. Propose at least two ways to overcome people’s resistance to change. Provide a rationale to support your response.

•Analyze the curriculum implementation models explained in the textbook (e.g., Organizational-Developmental Model, Systems Model, etc.) and consider the educational setting where you work or plan to work in the future. Discuss the model that you believe would be most effective for implementing a major change from an electives-based, liberal arts curriculum to an outcomes-based, school-to-work curriculum with core science, math, and technology courses. Provide a rationale to support your response.

1. For many teachers, a lack of personal experience with technology presents an additional challenge. In order to incorporate technology-based activities and projects into their curriculum, those teachers first must find the time to learn to use the tools and understand the terminology necessary for participation in those projects or activities. The use of smart board requires additional planning. The time necessary for technology implementation is draining.

2. Many schools and districts have made the mistake of placing technology into

classrooms without a comprehensive plan for training teachers. Once you have

discovered what level of access you have and what possibilities this access

affords you, it is time to address your own comfort level with the technology that

is in your classroom. Teachers aren’t comfortable with every software forced on

them. In my opinion, school districts buy unnecessary materials and give very

little training.

3. Technology simply distracts, diminishes social skills, and holds lesser value

than other content areas. With social networking sites so popular with students,

its hard to convince students to stay on task. One of the biggest distractions at

school is the use of cellphones.

Administrators must create an atmosphere in which teachers can experiment with technology. Teachers are leveraging a wide range of learning resources, tools, applications, outside experts and each other to create a personalized learning experience that may or may not adhere to the curriculum.

Organizational Educational Model is the most effective model for implementation. This model is used most with data driven instruction. Most administrators are accustomed to evaluating teachers and giving feedback. If their feedback isn’t receiving results, then an action plan should be implemented. In that action plan, an administrator would provide support for teachers in best practices. Also, the teacher and administrator should deep dive into data to find trends. Next, the teacher and administrator have to set goals and time frames. Once the action plan is set in motion, the data should improve.
