Discovering Emerging Technologies

EDU 540 Designing, Developing and Evaluating

Analyze the educational setting into which you wish to introduce an emerging technology (i.e., K-12 or an adult learning environment). Next, discuss one (1) substantive manner in which the setting in question is deficient in at least three (3) characteristics that comprise meaningful learning.

When introducing and emerging new technology into an educational classroom setting it can have a huge impact in the classroom. Current and future teachers must be prepared to rethink, learn, and relearn, change, revise and adapt as they work to plan, implement, and assess teaching with these new technologies (Niess, M., Rakes, C. R., & Ronau, R. N. (2012). This will help educators develop and create changes within the curriculum ensuring your students are eager and ready for the introduction of new technology. The goal is to keep students engaged and actively involved with the new technology introducing. It will be explained that technology can have a huge impact on the students and teachers. These programs are created and developed to show and teach students how to use technology in the classroom in order to enhance their learning, encourage and to motivate students. It is believed that technology can increase student productivity and have a positive effect as well. Three major characteristics that should be used through learning are cooperative, constructive and knowledge. Meaningful learning is when they combined information and new ideas through their own experiences from previous knowledge. Students should be able to comprehend and understand what has been taught from the knowledge. Working and interacting with others do cooperative, constructive and knowledge. It should be structured and promoted towards the students learning goals. It is important to try and create lessons that will accomplish a goal towards increasing the student’s knowledge on technology. It is also important to work together and share goals as well. Knowledge is constructed through active learning and is also a process. When students are actively involved and engaged it helps to increase their learning process including collaborating with other students as well.

Describe the desired scenario into which you propose introducing an emerging technology. Identify the content you wish to address. Analyze the student population that you plan to address. Summarize the goal of the scenario in one (1) sentence (Note: Follow the example provided in Appendix A of the Smaldino et al textbook).

There are a few basic steps when introducing and emerging new technology and it is planning, organizing and evaluating. These stages will allow the educator to show how effective it will be in the classroom. During the planning the educator will show how cost-effective and crucial the need is for new technology. The writer will also create a lesson for their students that will gain interest, grasp their attention and create and develop a strategic plan when introducing an emerging technology. It is important to plan, organize, develop and evaluate when there is a new introducing for technology. The educator will identify the importance of the new technology and how effective it will be to use in the classroom. It will also create and develop a strategy that will involve students using it as a learning tool. The student population that the writer plans to address is K-2. This student population is important to introduce them early and prepare them for the future. Students at this grade level have a short intention span so it is important to find ways to grasp their attention and keep them actively involved. Student Learning and Performance Technology use can also lead to increased student performance for a number of reasons. First, integrating technology into the classroom can tap into different learning styles. Students also go beyond rote memorization and foster new ways to apply the concepts that they learn (Blessinger, P., & Wankel, C. (2013).

Analyze three (3) emerging technologies, which are potentially compatible with the educational setting and the scenario that you had previously introduced. Discuss the attributes and features of each emerging technology, and demonstrate one (1) reason why each technology would be appropriate. Provide a rationale for your response.

The IPad, Smartboard and IPods are three technologies that would be emerge into the educational classroom setting. Each of these can be used to help increase student learning, engaged and actively involved. Merging them into the classroom will also teach students how to effectively used these devices and build their comprehension skills. Using this technology devise in the classroom can keep educators ahead and productive. The IPad and IPod have a variety of unique features that can provide a lot of interesting areas for teaching and learning. There are a lot of different educational apps that deliver educational instruction and to keep students engaged. Students are allowed to take control of their own learning and explore more. The Smartboard is used by educators as a teaching and learning tool that can be used in a group setting in the classroom. This has a huge impact in the classroom and it is hands-on and another learning tool that can be used to increase student participation. Smartboards are now becoming a huge essential to the classroom. It can also accommodate the different learning styles. Students are always eager to learn and explore new technology and it helps to increase there thinking skills.

From the three (3) technologies discussed in Question 3, select one (1) emerging technology for the educational setting in question. Create an argument for the use of the selected technology within your designated learning environment.

The IPad would be the emerging technology that the writer would use in an educational setting. With the IPad there are a variety of educational apps available for students to use and explore. The benefits of having the IPad is more accessible to resources, keeps students engaged, actively involved educational apps and geared towards different learning styles. To highlight the positive uses of technologies in relationships in educational settings, which will inform practice and shape policy, and to advocate for social supports and learning opportunities which can be delivered through technology (Spears, B. A., & Costabile, A. (2012). The writer believes that technology has a huge and effective impact on the classroom, students and teachers. Students can become more productive due to the increase of using technology in the classroom. Teachers are still continuing to find creative ways to of how to implement technology in their lesson.
