Instructional Management Plan

An instructional management plan simply outlines the goals, strategies, and activities that will be set in place to meet the standards of that particular place. In a classroom setting, this plan can be named the classroom management plan. Without this type of plan, students can be hindered from learning and also have behavior problems both of which may cause a delay in their learning. My classroom management plan will outline the goals of the classroom, rules, and expectations of the classroom, and what each person’s roles are within the classroom. Included will also be how I will implement the plan and a visual presentation of the learning environment will look to meet the goals.

Goal of Plan

The purpose of this instructional management plan is to provide routine, structure, and safety inside the classroom to ensure it is a place where students can focus on learning. Successful students will need a sense of structure that will allow them to understand what their responsibilities are throughout the school year. The instructional environment will be set up for kindergarten and first-grade students. This environment will be labeled and set up in ways that the students will know, understand, and be comfortable within the classroom. The environment will be sure to foster learning, manage behaviors, and provide safety to the students as well as me. According to Newman (2019), “Simply put, classroom management involves teacher decisions and actions intended to create an environment conducive to learning” (para. 2). The ability to manage the classroom is a way to help ensure students are able to learn and grasp the teaching.

Rules and Expectations

Rules are created not only to help with classroom management but also to ensure that the students are aware of what their responsibilities are. Some say that explaining the class rules at the start of school can really help to keep the classroom under control throughout the year (Schibsted, 2009). Letting the students work with the teacher to create the rules can help them feel included and want to meet their expectations.

Rules of the classroom:

Keeping the rules simple to understand is the best way for the students to remember them. When explaining the rules using the pronoun I will help the students to remember that the rules do apply to them.

• Always listen to instructions
• I will listen and follow the rules of our school
• Nice words and actions
• I will not say or do things to hurt others
• Raised hands
• I will raise my hand so that I can be heard
• Walking feet
• I will walk while inside the building and use running feet outside
• Quiet voices
• I will use my quiet voice while inside and used my loud voice outside

Role of Learners

Having clear responsibilities or roles for learners can ensure they understand what they are supposed to do and can help make the environment more conducive to learn in. One role of the learning is to always have confidence in themselves and believe they can do anything. Following the rules is also an important role of the learner. They must understand that if they cannot follow the rules they may get hurt or hurt others. Another role of the learner would be to take care of the classroom. By giving the learners this role they can feel a sense of belonging and really want to help take care of it.

Your Role

My role as the instructor is to ensure that each student is encouraged and motivated to do their best. As the instructor, my role is to also develop and make sure the rules are clear and enforced. Being prepared each day is another role that I have as an instructor. Having a daily plan outlined can help with classroom management. Creating and implementing age-appropriate lesson plans is another important role that I have. I will manage a learner-centered instructional environment by allowing the students to engage with another while providing them with positivity and safety.

Strategies to Engage and Motivate Learners

Some learners come from a place where motivation is extinct. As their instructor, one strategy to engage and motivate them will be to make them feel like a member of the classroom and build their independence. Another strategy to help with motivating students to stay engaged is to always have a plan of action for the day. This plan will have activities to help achieve both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation by providing the learners with a feeling of meeting a personal goal or receiving a reward (Newman, 2019). My final strategy to engage and motivate learners is to implement technology in the classroom. Technology has many apps and programs that help to foster learning and also can keep learners engaged in learning. “The integration of technology in the education system creates an effective, efficient, flexible, personalized, and comfortable learning system for learners (Phoong et al., 2019, p. 293). Technology can be used to help in managing the classroom and encourage learners to be independent learners.

Implementation Plan

To help make ensure that my instructional management plan is put into action I will introduce it to the class during the first weeks of school. By introducing the plan at the beginning of the school year this will help the students to have a chance to understand it. This will also give the students the chance to ask questions if they do not understand it. I will make the plan a part of the daily schedule for a few weeks to ensure that everyone understands their role and responsibilities. During large group, time would be the best time and place to go over the rules and expectations of the classroom.

Collaboration

The instructional plan can help to build relationships where everyone in the classroom can work together. Collaboration inside the classroom is the only way for the classroom to run smoothly and be a place where learning can take place. To ensure collaboration is done everyone should know and understand their roles. If each person is clear on their role they can establish a positive learning environment. If a positive learning environment is established then the learners will feel comfortable working to the meeting their potential as learners.

Visual Representation of the Physical Arrangement

The physical area of the classroom is set up simple. Three tables where the students sit to engage with the teacher on the interactive board located at the front of the room. In the back of the classroom, there are tables with computers for small group work along with a science area. In front of the classroom is also a small library area where the students can play with tables and also read books.

Conclusion

An instructional management plan is created so that a classroom is a place where learning can take place. The plan makes sure to let the learners and the instructors will know what their roles are within the classroom. The instructor is to create and foster an environment where the students can learn. I plan to use an instructional management plan in my future classroom to ensure that the classroom can provide the learners with a place to learn and reach their potential.
