Erik erikson developed stages of psychosocial developmentThere are eight different stages of developmentThe different stages go from birth to old ageThe stages discuss psychological needs of individuals(Erikson’s Stages of development, n.d.)

Stages of development

The first stage of development according to erikson is trust vs. mistrustThe second stage of development is autonomy vs. shameThe third stage of development is initiative vs. guiltThe fourth stage is industry vs. inferiority (Erikson’s stages of development, n.d.)

The fifth stage of development Is identity vs role confusionThe sixth stage of development is intimacy vs. isolationThe seventh stage of development is generativity vs stagnationThe eighth stage of development it ego integrity vs. despair(Erikson’s stages of development, n.d.)

Ego integrity vs despair

Stage begins at age 65 and goes until deathPeople slow down and contemplate life up until this pointPeople can view themselves as unproductive and feeling guiltySuccess can lead to wisdom(Erikson’s stages of development, n.d.)

Living in assisted living

Adults living in assisted living can decline in everyday functionsSleep disorders caused by living in assisted living can cause a declineAdults living in assisted living may spend up to 65% of their time alone and in their roomsThis leads to depression(Lorenz, Gooneratne, cole, kleban, kalra, & Richards, 2012)

Staying active

A nurse in charge of an assisted living community can take the older adults walking in order to keep them activeThe older adults can work out on gym equipmentThe older adults can attend high intensity workout classesStaying active will also help prevent falls in the older adults(Preventing falls and harm from falls in older adults, n.d.)

cognitive

You can help an older adult with ego integrity by offering classes to help increase cognitive abilityStart a book club with the older adultsOffer computer classes Work with local community centers and colleges to offer classes to the adults in the facility (Lorenz, Gooneratne, cole, kleban, kalra, & Richards, 2012)

socialization

You can hold social hours for the older adults to get out of their rooms and spend time with other adultsYou can take them on field trips to local sitesYou can have parties to get them out of their rooms

meditation

You can hold meditation for older adultsThis can get them out of them rooms this will help them focus and breatheMeditation can bring a sense of calm and peace

volunteer

Older adults will feel better if they feel they have given back to the communityFind local places that need volunteersHave them volunteer at local hospitals to help sit with babies or adults that have no one else
