Unit III Journal Reflection

For this journal entry, I was asked to answer multiple questions. Below are the responses to those questions. First question was what do I think of creating the project so far? So far, I have done a lot of research on the topic I have chosen. I think it is coming along nicely and look forward to putting it on paper. The next question was have I found it difficult or appropriate challenging? I would say both it has been a major pain researching my chosen topic, but I also thrive on challenging myself and believe I can rise to any level a challenge may present. The third question was what are some of the things that I have learned so far—about the process and about myself as a researcher? I have learned that this process is fairly simple if the instructions are clear. I have learned that as a researcher I take a way too much time over analyzing sources that aren’t useable. The fourth question if I could go back a few weeks what are some of the things you know today that you would tell yourself? I wouldn’t tell myself to change anything I have done so far. I think I have great time management skills and I am aware of my ability to complete tasks. If I do not understand the instructions or requirements of what I’m being asked to do I have no problems asking clarifying questions. The fifth questions was what are some of the key lessons I have learned? One key lesson I took away was how to complete a bibliography. I have used citations and references before but have never had to complete a bibliography, it was interesting to say the least. The last three questions were what have I learned about my topic that I did not know before? What do I find fascinating? What advice would I share with future students taking this course? Firstly, I have found out that there are numerous polls out there about my topic some relative and some were very selective and opinionated. Secondly, I enjoyed reading and researching both sides of the topic. I find it interesting to see how people try to sway your opinion with numbers and their biased opinions. Lastly, I would advise future students to find a topic that there are interested in knowing more about but don’t have a preconceived opinion on. I think that was the best thing for me so far. I knew about the issue I chose to research but didn’t have an opinion one way or another. Being able to see both sides unbiasedly and choosing the side I agree with the most has opened my eyes to a whole new perspective of researching.
