Employee Morale Proposal

Employee Morale Proposal

COMM/102

What would you say about complimentary healthy food and drinks in the workplace? It is a great idea to consider creating this incentive to improve the health, improve productivity in the work area and boost the morale of our coworkers. Establishing a wellness plan in the workplace can have great advantages that help improve your physical fitness and give us something to look forward to. This could also serve as a motivational tool to achieve their goals. Overall creating the motivation to change their eating habits, improve production in the work area and set the tone for a healthier lifestyle.

This program that we would like to promote will not to only help our employees but also reduce costs within the company. Studies show that companies that have programs such benefits have far less cost in production, fewer sick days among employees and the principal of all healthier employees. Offering healthy snacks and drinks in the workplace bring excitement and enjoyment coming to work as we all knows that sometimes, can be a little hectic. Knowing that there are healthy snack options available for us will ensure that we are working well with the right kind of energy. Aside from promoting healthier employees, it will also increase production in the workplace.

Creating an environment where employees feel rewarded and motivated to have a better quality of life not only at work is important. Implementing a plan to improve to the welfare of employees and their health means making an effort to create small changes and shows how much management cares about the lifestyle of the employees. We can start small with simple changes like eliminating most of the junk food in vending machines and replace them with healthier snacks like dried fruits and granolas. Replacing some sugary drinks and sodas and instead carry beverages such as natural juices, water, and teas among other things. These are some of the measures that can be started so that we can initiate better eating habits and improving our work performance.

Looking at other corporations, the owner of Natural Ovens Bakery, Paul Sitt, has declared that his business gained financially after giving plans including free healthy meals for workers. Stitt, who started Natural Ovens Bakery 33 years ago, said he has done a number of things to promote a healthier workforce at his business. “A culture of wellness can’t be done by preaching. It can’t be done by bringing in an outside consultant. It really has to start at the top,” Stitt said. “You have to lead by example. You have to make exercise part of the daily routine and expect your employees to be healthy.” (Springer, 2005)

I have gone over much of the “pros” in my proposal. With that being said, there are of course the “cons”. To initiate and maintain healthy snacks in the workplace can be costly. If there are other avenues where we can lessen the budgets and apply it toward this program that would be beneficial. We could also look for donations from companies who would be interested in promoting wellness in our company. There are also some people who will simply refuse to take part in the program. Before starting we could take a survey to see how many would enjoy and benefit from it.

In closing, I believe that it is essential that our corporation be healthy and continue to stay this way to promote happy and productive employees. Many large companies now carry some type of wellness plan as a benefit to their workers whether it is a gym in the work place or gym memberships, annual employee physical examinations, vaccinations and discounts to many wellness centers and programs. There is no better time to start than now to implement this program and be a part of the new trend that is happening.

I look forward to discussing this with you personally at our next staff meeting.
