Week #4 Assignment on Report Analyst of a Fortune 500 Company

The Kroger Company, from Cincinnati, Ohio, is a fortune 500 company. The local company has been in business since 1883, and puts out a report every year.

The annual report that is provided by Kroger to its stockholders is more than just numbers of sales. The report is very detailed, including budgetary amounts, but also paints a picture on what the company has planned.

Proxy Statement and Annual Report

The first part of the 2016 annual report talks about the amount of sales that the company did over the past 3 years. The report was a very well written report, in every phase of the report you could see the 3-step written process. The authors took their time in understanding whom they were writing the report for, why they were writing the report, and made it clear so that anyone could read and understand the report.

Proxy Report

The first section of the annual report was the proxy report. A proxy report is a statement that required to be filed so that a firm can ask for shareholder’s votes. This statement, or report, is several pages long. It is a very clear and concise statement of what the company, Kroger, Inc., is asking for, or what their vision is.

The authors knew who they were writing for, the shareholders, and why they were writing it, to ask for votes.

Annual Report

The annual report is broken up into several different sections. Each section, whether it be showing graphs on what percentage the board member’s salary make up, to detailed accounting records on what profit the company made, is written to a specific purpose. Each section shows that the 3-step writing process was used. They planned out their proposal, collected data, and created a report that can be easily read by a multitude of investors.
