Hazard Mitigation Awareness

Hazard mitigation awareness comes from the commitment of the measures taken to reduce risks which happens during natural hazards and these measures acts as strategic guide for those who make the hazard plan. There must be hazard identification so that the plan can be effective which is followed by risk assessment. The risk assessment provides a way in which a development mitigation strategy to reduce risks to life and property. The mitigation plan describes how the mitigation activities should be prioritized, implemented and administered effectively to those areas which need the measures. My county is experiencing prolonged drought in some periods of the year.

According to Wilhite (2012) there is a mitigation plan which is in the process on how we should reduce the drought risks which may affect both the property and life too. A model is developed to assess and respond to the prolonged drought in our county. There is need for agricultural drought resistant crops to be planted which should be included in the mitigation planning. When the agricultural sector is affected all the other sectors are also influenced including economic sector and socioeconomic sector. A drought mitigation plan therefore comes to define when the drought-induced water supply shortage exists and tries to show the actions which should be taken to reduce these risks.

Wilhite (2012) argues that this mitigation plan is trying to target those locations which have adverse effects of the drought. There is need for preservation of future generation by reducing the period by which the drought occurs. The main objective of this plan is to preserve the public water services and to avoid interrupting water supply sources. In addition, there is great need to minimize the adverse effects of water supply emergencies which could lead to water crisis. In this plan, we determine the actions which could help to respond to a drought related water supply shortage before the actual drought occurs.

There is need for the reduction of these effects of emergency water supply on public health and safety, environmental resources and individual lifestyle. All the people from Amazon County should ensure uninterrupted supply of water in an amount sufficient in satisfaction of the essential needs of every individual. It is important for every individual to have knowledge on what are the consequences of drought and how these effects should be minimized. It is also very crucial for the people to get information on the different between drought mitigation and water conservation to avoid confusion. Drought response measures should include mandatory restrictions on certain water uses.

After the drought mitigation plan has been reviewed in compliance with the guidelines for the office in which they review and evaluate drought mitigation plans. The CWCB has developed a drought planning toolbox to assist water providers on how we can develop drought mitigation plans. It also helps in provision of data and other drought information on how to reduce the effects brought about by drought. The information for drought mitigation can be organized in series of one-day regional seminars so that every individual can get the data on how to go about the mitigation. There is need for more stakeholders for them to create social and mass awareness to people on drought mitigation (smith et al, 2000).

Drought mitigation awareness will be created through advertisements which will be done covering mostly the effects of climate change so that people can engage in solving issues which lead to these effects. These seminars provide an overview on how some sectors should partner with private sectors and other development agencies (Wilhite, 2012). A special website is created for the advertisement and provision of information on environmental and sustainable development implications. Registration for this media is freely open for those interested in drought mitigation program so that we can help each other to reduce these risks. There are no charges for using advertisement website because we need every individual to get the information.

According to smith et al (2000) drought has led to many problems which go beyond what the scope of water supplies is able to cater for. In order to make the community understand these effect of drought, exercises and evaluation of worksheet to create awareness to all the people. This drought mitigation plan is sponsored by National drought mitigation Centre. The advert provided in the advertisement helps communities with the steps they can take to reduce future outcomes of the drought. There is also need for the planning responses to be brought before and other drought occurs so that every individual is equipped with the measures on how to tackle the hazard event.

There are various benefits of making people aware of drought risks and how to solve the problems. Creation of awareness makes the county reduce the loss of dollars when there is an outcome of the drought. During this period of drought people have reduced stress because they already know when the drought will occur. In addition, many secure animal’s habitat and communities increase resilient to drought. Public awareness is very effective state in mitigation plan because the community should formulate a strategy in which it will be useful for the mitigation. There is need for implementation schedule to make sure that every step is effective in the mitigation process.

Drought is becoming a chronic problem not only in a region but also nationwide whereby it has called for regional development planning for this county. Drought response interventions are taking three forms that are emergency drought relief, drought rehabilitation and drought mitigation. Drought mitigation response should ensure emergency relief is taken seriously like food and water. The response to our mitigation plan is to provide enough food to most of our stores so that it can be effectively supplied to all people. There is also need for all the farmers to plan drought resistant crops to help our government not to strain so much in provision of food and water. During the period of drought every individual and also animals compete for food and water which may lead to human to animal conflicts.

The mitigation is mostly targeting the rural areas and other vulnerable groups in order to reduce income disparities during and after the drought. We use established infrastructure both public and local facilities to supplement feeding facilities to cater for the emerging needs. There is a selected committee which will work and coordinate this program to the responses produced. There is an employment project so that the economic status of the people can be improved and lifting the standards of living during thus severe period of time (Smith et al, 2000). To respond to drought hazard there are programs which have been set for short-term drought control. These programs are responsible for feeding the livestock proteins and other energy feeds with favorable cost for every farmer (Svoboda et al, 2007).

In any plan there should be an implementation which simply means to put the plan in action. This is where the whole idea is put in to practice and all the farmers seen utilizing the information given to them by the county. Wilhite (2012) has tried to show how implementation process is very effective to any activity which is directed towards the goals and objectives of the plan. Implementation should be effectively being done to avoid those poor farmers facing severe times in future. Measure for reducing food insecurity should be considered and method of eradicating poverty into our region. This action should be taken in all level to avoid inequality which as a result may lead to conflicts. The education provided to the media should be strictly be followed and put into practice without exclusion. There is also exploration of opportunities for wildlife development so that they can act as tourist attraction increasing the amount of capita in our county

In conclusion drought is severe problem whereby it is different from floods as it can affect a number of lives. Drought affects the productivity of farmers and also the world animals. Farmers should therefore be encouraged to plant those crops which do well in dry conditions. Farmers need to be trained on different farming methods whereby there is also need for improved technology to boost the yield from the farmers (Wilhite et al, 2000). Regional land conservation is being practiced so that we can avoid erosion to these farms. This capital will in turn help this region to create more social amenities and lifting the living standards of our region.
