“Strategic Approach” Please respond to the following:

Assess Southwest Airlines’ strategic approach to human resource (HR) management. Determine how its strategy increases organizational effectiveness.

Southwest Airlines is considered to be very unique in its kind when it comes to managing and having an efficient human resource management at their work place. In addition to these there are many strategic decisions which increases their organizational effectiveness which is being discussed and described below:-

The first and most important strategic approach Southwest Airlines has taken is to make their human resource strategy in sync with their organizations mission and vision and hence the sole responsibility of the HR to ensure that they create an efficient human resource strategy which reflects organizations mission and vision and the same is being followed by each and every employee of the organization.

The second most important strategic approach that Southwest Airlines’ adopted is that they encouraged their employees to deliver great customer service and have fun at work which helped Southwest Airlines to provide best in class customer service to its customers and at the same employees enjoyed their work because to provide best in class customer service they are being bestowed with many powers

The third most important strategic approach that Southwest Airlines’ adopted which increases its organizational effectiveness is that Southwest’s human resources department is named the “people department” and stresses the two “C’s”” compassion and common sense.

Propose three ways that HR can use competitive advantage in the marketplace to recruit new applicants in general.

The first way is to hire through references which is considered to be one of the most effective ways because a person working within the organization/company is the best person to refer someone instead of seeking an outside agency to refer the talent. The second way is to hire through LinkedIn or Monster.com because it is also considered to be an area where one gets more info about the person as compared to some recruitment portal. The final way is to recruit future employees from local job fairs in which recent graduates and local talent might attend and apply for a position within the organization/Company.
