Next, speculate on one (1) risk of using technology within a health care system, and suggest one (1) way to mitigate the risk in question. Provide a rationale to support your response.

Also, determine the basic components of a strategic information system (IT) plan within health care organizations.

Health information technology has the potential of improving the quality of healthcare. It supports health care delivery, consumer measurement and improvement, consumer health, public accountability, clinical and health services research and clinical education. IT innovations have improved important outcomes across diverse practice settings. A computerized physician order entry, a component of a fully functional EHR system may help reduce preventable medication errors by more than half.

While the EHR systems promise some substantial benefits, serious unintended consequences from the implementation of the systems have emerged. One such risk is protecting patient privacy. Disclosure and improper use of patient information may endanger patient safety and decrease the quality of healthcare. It may also jeopardize the integrity of information system in a health organization and bring unintended consequences. These unintended consequences may increase abuse and fraud and thus have serious legal implications. To deal with this risk, health organizations should come up with strict rules and measures to safeguard the information systems. Only those with a legitimate need should have access to it, and they should also maintain professional integrity. This will help ensure confidential patient information is secure and safe and thus maintaining the standards of health organizations.
