The Death Penalty: Unethical

The death penalty is unethical and could abolish, across the world. Even those who have committed a crime have the right to life. The decision made by a jury to take the life of a convicted offender is not Gods way, has a lasting effect on many people, and proves nothing more than an egotistical need to seek out restitution (Thiroux, & Krasemann, 2015). First, the value of a life is taken when an individual is put to death. Capital punishment can be deemed social murder, ignited on a criminal by members of society. If murder in cold blood is wrong, then so is crime initiated by community; either way, a life is taken — the role of ethics in society is to protect the rights of humans. One of the reasons an individual has is the value of their life. Capital punishment directly violates this right. As indicated in the results theory in ethics, punishment should be in societies best interest, the death penalty does not benefit society in any way, it instead shows them murder is acceptable (Thiroux & Krasemann, 2015). Second, the death penalty as a punishment for a crime is the equivalent of an eye for an eye revenge. Those affected by the murder, seeking restitution, by seeing the convicted be put to death, are committing crime. In conjecture with the deserts theory, their motive is considered acceptable because the individual took life from them; this is still murder, only murder under court-appointed supervision, with a medical doctor present, under oath to save lives, helping to take one (Thiroux, & Krasemann, 2015). The American Medical Association, here in the United States, speaks to a medical doctor’s medical code of ethics in saying, “as a member of a profession dedicated to preserving life when there is the hope of doing so, a physician must not participate in a legally authorized execution” (Henry, 2018).  The death penalty sends confusing messages and contradictory beliefs to society, set by the government. A nation that rally’s for capital punishment is ruling for the government to participate in premediated assassination.
