Human Cloning Issue: Ethical or Not

Now a day’s science and technology is advancing day by day. The new discoveries is revolutionizing every field of life. The advancements in biotechnology and genetic engineering has completely changed the scenario of life. The techniques of cloning has increased the food production and other facilities of life. There are some ethical issues in human cloning which has been debated in the past few years. The advocates and critics of cloning has number of reasons to clone or not to clone. Apart from that human cloning is an ethical issue. The major concern is that cloning is successful to some extent, but there is a high ratio of failures in cloning which has raised ethical issues.

Cloning was stated way back in 1997, when an embryologist along with his colleagues successfully cloned a lamb, named Dolly. The clone lamb changed the world. Cloning was just imaginary before that, but after the clone of Dolly the question began to rise about the ethical value of cloning. Most of the organizations and Government institutes questioned: Are humans next? This question gave a new concept in ethics. The main goal of government is to protect its citizens. Some people believe that government should regulate cloning for specific purposes increasing food production and not allow human cloning. Human cloning is completely unethical no one can produce clones for its own research and use the parts of clone for personal benefits. Cloning is unnatural way of producing offspring’s. The major religions of the world such as, Islam, Christianity, Jewish, Hindu and Protestant don’t accept cloning. Cloning is referred as similar to ‘Playing God’. Cloning is also thought off as violation of diversity of a human life. As clone is exactly the identical copy of the person who is cloned. Every religion of the world has prohibited cloning as there is no moral basis of cloning a human being. People can use clone of their own benefits. There is a huge risk of abuse as people would be able to produce large armies of military and huge human resources to dominate the world. There is serious issue of jeopardy of abuses and misuse by bad people.

Cloning is morally wrong because the human ethics and morality teaches that killing or extending a life is wrong. In cloning, scientist takes the stem cells out of human being which is similar to killing a person just to save another person life. The advocates of cloning argue that stem cells are just the cluster of cells having no ethical thoughts, these stems cells having the DNA which is to be cloned are similar to thousands of skin cells which we discard daily. The general belief about the cloning is that its advocates argue only when brain grows it becomes conscious and attain the feature of human personhood . My argument for those is that God has created every creature with unique shape and features. The cloned human would look identical to the parent but don’t have the feelings of real love and happy memories. So they just have the same DNA , and that will cause a social problem in the society.

Cloning may produce a long term genetic disorder. When a having a specific disorder in his genetics is cloned. The clones would have that specific disorder and the duplicated person has the same disorder with late onset in life. Cloning can pollute the process of evolution. There is need of continuous mixing of genes to keep an active gene pool. The natural process of genes selection is diminished with cloning and this impair the process of evolution. The current technology also cannot support the cloning of human beings. The failure level is too high in human cloning. The cloned people would be similar in the characteristics but there thinking would be very dull. Cloning is not safe for delivery of baby. There is big question mark on the biological parentage of the child who is born by cloning. As in cloning the fertilized embryo is placed in another mother who is not the one whom egg was taken for fertilization by sperm (Ethical issues related to human and animal cloning, viewed 1 July 2010). The major issue with human cloning is that, it does not assure the similar thinking of cloned human. Cloning will leads to two classes of people in the society.

In the conclusion, I will say that today more scientists are working to improve the process of cloning. There are a lot of risks and hazards to human health and even the clones. The issue of cloning must be handled with caution. It can bring benefits, but on the other side it can destroy us as well. Human cloning is a serious ethical and religious issue. Cloning is a great advancement in technology but it should not be used on humans. The creation of human is by God and we are subjected to follow His laws and obey. The cloning of human is unethical as it is ‘Playing God’ and God have the worst punishment for this unethical act. Cloning of human is a religious and ethical matter. Cloning must be done for organ or tissue transplants but there must be no human cloning. Cloning of human has more drawbacks than the advantages so it is unethical to clone a human being.
