Hypothesis Statement

Hypothesis is created by the researchers through speculations and guesses of what the outcome might be. A number of means are used for generation of hypothesis. Inductive reasoning is mostly used whereby the observations made during the process are used to come up with the theory. Inductive reasoning is used by most of the scientists to come up with a hypothesis that is falsifiable, testable and realistic.

A hypothesis statement refers to a solution or answer to scientific question or problem that can be rejected or verified through testing (Thomas, Silverman & Nelson, 2015). It is also an educated proposition or guess that makes an attempt to explain a natural phenomenon or set of facts. Hypothesis in most cases is used in the field of science whereby the scientific method is used to test it. It leads to many prediction and guesses that are scientifically testable.

Hypothesis statement is very important in validating a research study. It is very important because it acts like a guide to the research process. It directs the thoughts and ideas of an investigations towards getting the solution of a certain problem or problems. It helps a researcher or an investigator to be able to collect the right data that can be reliable for a certain investigation. The other importance of hypothesis in research is that it helps an investigator to be able to locate the right information needed to help in coming up with a solution towards a problem or problems(Rea & Parker, 2014).

The other importance of hypothesis statement is that it makes research to remain focused. Without a hypothesis statement, research just remains unfocused. Therefore it links investigation and theory.

Hypothesis statement is also important in that, it sets specific and clear goals to the researcher and provides him with a clue and idea of how to select the research procedure and sample in order to meet the intended goals and objectives.

It also ensures that the research that is carried out is not a blind one but a perfect one. It saves the researchers from diverting from the right data and collective masses of data that can lead to irrelevant data being obtained. Therefore it ensures that a genuine research is carried out and that all the data and information collected is relevant and that at the end of the day, a relevant study is carried out.

It also helps in linking things together whereby it links information with the important facts and ensuring that the facts and information are organized into whole.

In addition, hypothesis helps in ensuring that the whole research process remains reliable and scientific. It ensures that the research process all the way from the collection of data, sampling of data up to the conclusion of the research process remains scientific and reliable.

It is not a mandatory for the researchers to have a hypothesis statement when carrying out research. They can embark in the field to carry out their research projects without the hypothesis. Research done without a hypothesis statement can turn out to be a relevant and a scientific one. With the hypothesis statement, the research turns out to be more relevant and scientific as compared to one that is carried out without the hypothesis statement. The function and importance of hypothesis statement is just to give direction and guidance to the researcher so that he or she does not depart from the predicted outcome or solution (Lynch, Falakmasir & Ashley, 2014). Therefore, it is very important to formulate a hypothesis statement in order to come up with a successful research.
