The family has been defined by a variety of scholars. According to Golics et al (2013), a family is a group of individuals who are related to each other. This relationship may be either by birth or marriage. A family can also be described as a group of individuals living together. a disease is a medical condition affecting an individual interrupting the daily activities of the family and society at large. A disease has emotional, financial, physical, social as well as world and study impacts. This paper examines the most affected factor by diseases. The paper will also discuss the importance of personal comfort to the patient and to the family.

From the Golics study and analysis, it is clear that the family is emotionally affected by a high percentage. Approximately 92 percent of family members are frustrated, filled with stress and worries, they feel guilty and also angry because of their patient’s situation. The family members feel lonely and upset because they find it difficult to find any help from other people. Talking to the family is of importance as it relieves them from agony and loneliness (Devins et al. 2014). When the family members lack someone to express their feelings to the end up crying in order to remove or release the pain in their hearts. There is much worry about the patient’s future conditions putting pressure to the family members. A lot of fear and worry is impacted to family members and also to the patient asking themselves as to whether the situation is going to end or the patient will be back.

Quality of life of the affected family is really wanting. From the selected 193 families for research, they all portrayed a high percentage of diseases impacts emotionally. Chronic diseases have the worst emotional impacts on the family because each and every member of the family feels he or she is the next victim of the disease. Gender issues are also affecting the family emotionally because the research portrayed most of the females are more affected by cancer than males. This creates worries and the feeling of helplessness to the female gender. Caring for the patient also creates so variety of emotions including lack of control.

Importance of support personnel in the plan of care

Plan of care is a systematic way providing process and procedures to be administered to the patient. It is therefore important to include professionals as a support person in the plan of care because the patient would be able to talk about his or her situation with the professional. The patient will be open to the support person more than his or her family (Devins et al. 2014). He or she will feel free to talk about how the disease affects his or her life and what should be done with the right support to achieve the better solutions. Support persons would ensure that they communicate with the patient more often and keep them involved to control the emotional impacts of the disease. The support person ensures a meaningful life to the patient despite their conditions. This is through talking and caring for the patient.

Conclusion

There is a variety of impacts of diseases on the family but this paper has discussed the major factor affected by disease (Golics et al. 2013). We have seen that the family is highly affected emotionally by a particular disease. It is therefore important to provide adequate care plans to help the patient as well as the family.
