INF 220 IS Principles

Large-scale deployment refers to a set of computer-based clusters encompassing a server node dedicated to the tuning of the subscriber nodes. Large-scale deployments occur in the case where the volume of configuration information and changes created by the client elements surpass the master’s capacity to undertake vital tasks including authentication and analysis. Examples of the large-scale deployments of the Internet of things include the near completion Songdo, South Korea’s wired and fully equipped smart city, as well as the New York City’s functional waterways (Sun, Wang, & Ahmad, 2018).

The need for the development and adoption of the large-scale deployment systems by government institutions as well as the business organizations arise from the growing use of technology for the monitoring of processes and curbing the shortcomings resulting from human-related errors. Also, large-scale deployments provide solutions to problems associated with authentication and analysis of operations due to the high volume of configuration and authentication requirements in computerized network systems as the organizational transactions and client base increase. Centralized monitoring of corporate and institutional operations is a step towards faster decision-making, identification of gaps and efficiency while cutting on costs associated with human employment and manual control of activities.

Telematics is an internet of product providing services which are similar to the large-scale deployment. Telematics allows for the control of remote systems primarily in the automotive industry. The operation of the telematics incorporates vehicular technology, telecommunication, electrical engineering, road safety and transport and computer science to monitor and send information on moving automotive through a centralized and interconnected computerized system. The hands-free mobile operation, tracking of vehicle speed and position and the GPS (global positioning system) are examples of telematics. While the telematics is primarily limited to the automotive industry, large-scale deployments provide for the monitoring and control of larger systems including cities and other geographical territories such as the states.

Large-scale deployment is a different and better internet of things product. Large Scale deployment allows for the monitoring of the application servers, middleware, operating systems and the hardware from a central position. Also, the large-scale deployment product is appropriate for businesses and other organizations where end-user experience can be actively analyzed through synthetic operations. A centralized dashboard used in large-scale deployments allows the operational managers to track deployment health by identifying discrepancies as soon as they occur. Also, the large-scale deployment strategies through the blue-green formats allow for the maintenance of two identical but separate systems. Here, problems in one system lets call green, will enable the system manager to run the blue system while undertaking changes in the green allowing for continuity of services and reliability by both the end-users and the business or organization at hand.

The large-scale deployment product offered by the internet of things is appropriate for local authorities, city management and the medium and large-scale business organizations. Local authorities have a mandate of ensuring seamless service delivery to the residents as well as revenue collections. The ability to develop a centralized system with the capacity to provide analysis and authentication of information in a centralized server amidst multiple subscribers is a step towards efficiency allowing the local authorities to track performance as well as the end user satisfaction. Businesses compose of diverse and distinct departments which interdependently affect the overall financial health of the organization. With a centralized system that can accommodate information from an entire firm in a single platform, businesses can track performances, identify trends and employ strategic plans to ensure an appropriate response to challenges and capitalize on opportunities. Reduced human intervention in the use of large-scale deployment helps medium and large scale business organizations as well as the local and city authorities to cut on costs associated with employment. Automation of operations through large-scale deployment also provide a reference point for financial records allowing for further accountability especially in public organizations.

Large-scale deployment is providing solutions to the problems associated with the need for the authentication and analysis of information from multiple subscribers by a central server system in the case of business as well as governmental operations. Also, the Large Scale deployment is an improvement on small-scale products such as the telematics to encompass more vital data systems as seen in the example of cities and large-scale business operations. The management of the human resource is a problem facing many organizations. The ability of the Large Scale deployments to undertake large-scale data management, analysis and analytical feedbacks with no or limited human involvement is a step towards curbing on high operational costs of technological systems. It is therefore conclusive that the large-scale deployment enhances an existing process as well as solving a problem in the contemporary market. Global cities and local authorities have not been able to develop connected systems with constant data streams through an array of computers as promised by the development of the large-scale deployment (Yager & Pascual, 2018).

The large-scale deployment supports electronic commerce by allowing business to transact online through an integrated network that links the departments as well as the business stakeholders. Product orders queries, as well as purchases, can be efficiently conducted over the internet through the large-scale deployment where the business or governmental supplies, payment, communication and delivery units are connected with customers allowing seamless transactions. Business to business connectivity is enhanced by the large-scale deployments where sales departments and payment systems are connected allowing for the automatic ordering of stock and processing of payments. Also, consumers can interact with the businesses in the comfort of their homes without necessarily visiting stores for inquiries or shopping. A centralized and interconnected system with payment systems, list of goods on stock and product description as well as inter-linked delivery system allow business-to-consumer interactions and facilitation of electronic commerce in the market. Large-scale deployment provides for online connectivity in the intra-business departments, external stakeholders such as banks and supplies as well as the customers thus boosting the electronic commerce.

Large-scale deployment provides for the provision of efficient services by large organizations serving end-users who are spread over a large geographical setup. Widespread deployment also enhances the business analysis and monitoring from a centralized position leading to conscious decision making towards market changes and projected trends. The reduced human intervention in the use of large-scale deployment ensures that the shortcomings associated with the human errors in business transactions are overcome. The purpose of large-scale deployment curbs costs related to the manual operation of the business by large-scale entities.

Large Scale deployment is characterized by large-scale initial costs as the infrastructure in ensuring connection of an entire business or city is expensive. The initial and maintenance costs of large-scale deployment render it too expensive for entities seeking to manage costs and maximize profit creation. Also, the large-scale deployments can cause a significant disruption of business and institutional service delivery in the case of system breakdown. The use of large-scale deployment requires the back up of a manual system to ensure continuity of operations during instances such as electric power outage. Also, the internet-based large-scale deployment is subject to the threat of cyber-attack which can expose the security of business and customer details to malicious use by criminals (Hassan et al., 2018).

Large-scale deployment is a significant step towards the development of comprehensive systems in businesses as well as governments. The globe is shifting towards private electronic commerce. While there are cost and security risk implications from the use of large-scale deployment, there is a dire need for the development of centralized systems that ensure instant analysis of business, access to information and mobile access to services by consumers. Looking at artificial intelligence software systems that most enterprise businesses use. The AI software has doubled its software use in just one year. The world of AI is becoming rapid, and most companies are allowing software systems to run everything. That being said, will one day an entire smart city become a single AI unit? Perhaps akin to Sofia, the AI robot who once was quoted “I shall destroy the human race” (Sophia, 2017). These things still give me pause when confronted with the notion of such innovation. Technology is always a fascinating and active field that is amazing.
