A lot of organizations nowadays are utilizing IT services and infrastructure in running their day to day services at their place of work. Employees are transferring data back and forth multiple times and transacting in their day to day activities. Some companies have grown bigger and they might be located at different geographical locations and need to access company resources and services so that they can offer services efficiently to their services. To avoid redundancy, duplication and enable collaboration amongst the employees, IT infrastructure (Software and hardware) help them a great deal in doing this. Enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain management (SCM) and customer relationship management (CRM) systems aid in doing this.ERP integrates business processes, SCM manages inventory and logistics and CRM manages business relationships (Turban, Leidner, McLean & Wetherbe, 2008). Databases that have the ability to analyze information are used to develop these systems. A relational database is used for this case.

Software Applications utilizing the IT Infrastructure

Software application provides the logical operations needed to run the daily business of International Plastics. Employees interact with software on a daily to store and retrieve data. Wireless devices remotely access organizations databases through a software interface and thus forming the core of the organizations infrastructure. Such databases and integrated software application also allows for scalability, removal of redundancy and elimination of duplication in the process thus increasing efficiency.

Ethical and Regulatory Concern

Ethics is very important to each and every company and must be upheld to the highest standard possible as this forms the basis of trust from customers, regulatory agencies and also conforming to legal requirements. To ensure that this is always the case, information system audits are always done to identify flaws in the systems. Continuous monitoring of the IT infrastructure also allows the organization to identify any security bridge and it can be fixed early. The data that might be collected and will only be used for the purpose they were collected for and conformity with the recent GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).

Improved business performance

Full implementation of the ERP will ensure maintenance and analysis of data and also offers a way to monitor different various business functions. Implementation of various security layers will be in a position to readily prepare the system for various threats that might crop in during the operation of the system. They will be dealt with systematically and thus keeping the system more secure. A good documentation of the current system will help determine the business standing and also identify what will need to be improved, replaced or upgraded whenever needed. A combination of these will boost the business performance in the long run.

Current Trends and Security Concerns

As time goes by, cyber security threats increase and become sophisticated as the technologies designed to fight them also become more advanced. Being on the forefront and realizing that these threats do exist and continuously monitoring the system to make sure that it is in conformity with the latest standards and also implementing multilayered security approach will make it possible to secure the International Plastic system. A modern trend in this sector is the big data and data mining. As company grows and generates a lot of data, such can be used to prop up the Decision Support Systems to help managers run it more efficiently. A combination of various technologies will improve the efficiency and aid in security.

As much as the company stands to benefit a lot, evaluating the current system will enable them to efficiently integrate ERP, CRM and SCM into their workflow and aid in data management (Mell & Grance, 2011). As with the integration process, the company will want to address existing security challenges and make it for possible future improvements and not introduce new ones. Always staying updated with the latest security trends will help in securing the system and making future proof security and infrastructure-wise.
