IOM Future of Nursing

Recommendation 4: Increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020.

Since I have a master’s degree this will open many teaching opportunities for, teaching the undergraduate students. I love becoming a tutor (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2012).

Recommendation 5: Double the number of nurses with a doctorate by 2020.

This is wonderful because by 2020 I will have a doctorate degree and health is becoming complex every day I will take policy making position where I will incorporate the evidence based practice to current nursing practices (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2012).

Recommendation 6: Ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning.

This is will give me a chance to mentor many to keep their practice up to date as I love doing research in evidence based practice for the good of the patients (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2012).

Identify your options in the job market based on your educational level.

How will increasing your level of education affect how you compete in the current job market?

It will lower competition because many people have not acquired this level of education (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2012).

How will increasing your level of education affect your role in the future of nursing?

I will be given managerial role and move away from being a bed side nurse. This is exciting as I would like a job that is more challenging than what I am currently doing so that I can grow professionally (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2012).
