The main factors that you should consider before deciding whether to buy a laptop or a tablet include: size/weight/portability; battery life; availability of productivity tools; hardware/software support; and connectivity. The key features of both a laptop and a tablet have been analyzed in the following factors (Bidgoli, 2014).

Size/weight/portability: A tablet is smaller, lighter and easier to carry compared to a laptop.

Battery life: Battery life of a tablet is 10 hours while that of a typical laptop is 3 hours.

Availability of productivity tools: Laptops are more productive for business functions when used alongside additional accessories compared to a tablet.

Hardware/software support: A laptop support more hardware/software than a tablet

Connectivity: Laptop supports more connectivity system than a tablet.

A laptop has the following three (3) characteristics which may influence my decision to buy one: high hardware/software support; supports more productive tools; and high storage capacity for large data (Bidgoli, 2014).

High hardware software support would enable me to connect my laptop to peripheral devices such as modems, speakers, flash disks, scanners and even printers. Through this I would be able carry out most of my activities using a single device. It would also enable me to install software to use in completing desired objectives.

Support for more productive tools such as business applications which can then be used to carry out some the desired business functions. Some of these business applications include big data and programming.

High storage capacity is a characteristic of the laptop which enables the user to store large sizes of data and even conduct back up without affecting the operation of the device. This would be beneficial in constant storage of business transactions.

A tablet has the following three (3) characteristics which may influence me to buy one: small size/weight; long battery life; and flexible keyboard (Ozok et al, 2008).

Small size/weight of the tablet makes it easier to carry around. It also requires a small space to carry a tablet than a laptop.

Long battery life of a tablet makes it a lifetime partner of an individual. Most tablets have battery life of approximately 10 hours, which would mean one can operate a tablet for a whole day without connecting to a source of power.

Flexible keyboard is a key characteristic of a tablet. There are two types of tablets; touch screens and windows. It neither needs a mouse of an external keyboard to function making an all-pack device.

Three (3) tablets in the market include: iPad tablet; Optimus Pad (LG) tablet; and Galaxy Tab (Samsung) tablet. I would buy an iPad tablet because first of all, it has battery life of approximately 10 hours. This would be convenient to me because I do not drive a personal car making it difficult to charge during the day while in the college. Secondly, it has controlled hardware/software operating system. This makes it easier to operate and less prone to bugs. Thirdly, it has a large screen with special user interfaces to all use of the whole screen at any time. Fourthly, iPad tablet has access to more accessories and exclusive Apps compared to other tablets. It is connected to App store will allows for free download of software.

Finally, since it is a window operating system making it compatible to multiple gadgets .due to this it can be easier to enhance its external connectivity with ease (Ozok et al, 2008).
