Leaders are born not made

A leader is a person who leads a group of or commands about what should be done. It is the leader’s responsibility to influence a certain group of people so that it can act in a way that is needed for an organization. Leadership skills are held up from the time the child is born until the child becomes a leader. A leader should be able to coordinate all the members and their interest for better and fruitful results (Lewis, 2008). There has been debate in that there are those say that leaders are born while others try to say that leaders are made. The question is that can leadership be taught in class like management?

Leadership can be a set of skills that one can learn through observation, training, perception experience and in addition by practicing. There are different views which try to explain how leadership is acquired from different people. For instance, an individual can gain skills and knowledge in a certain field and qualify to become a leader. He/she can therefore lead with much competence because the individual is equipped with knowledge on that particular field. This person can also influence other people through his/her hard worker and motivate other to become future leaders too (Lewis, 2008). Teachers also have been faced by the responsibility of molding learners to become our future leaders through inspiring them with great ideas about leadership.

Leadership can also be made through observation whereby one can monitor a role model and start acting like his/her role model with a lot of competence. Observation is one of the ways one can acquire skills and become an important person in the society. For example, players acquire most of their techniques through observation and training which enables them to become great people in the society. As they practice their acquired skills they become good players while others become leaders because of their commitment and determination. There are people with high observation power and can internalize well to make meaning out of what they have observed (Avolio, 2005).

There is also other argument that leadership involves the combination of personality traits and other combined qualities acquired over a period of time. These acquired skills and knowledge are learned over a period of time and practices to make them effective. The most important leadership trait is the ability to solve a complex situation in better way without favoring any party. In addition, successful leadership comes about when the leaders allow views and ideas of their member in cooperated together in the best way possible to set a good decision. Character of an individual is also very important because it assists in leadership roles (Rowley, 2007).

Many people are responsible for influencing a person to become a leader like parents, teachers, an employer or other great leaders. This influence is done through observation of the success that these great people have done and because of the urge to look like them you also become a leader. You can also ask what your subjects feel about leadership in order to develop leadership skills which fit well to learn from the mistakes. The most important aspects in leadership are the commitment to set strong objectives which are achievable and specific. There are more details to learn from different situations you come across as a leader.

There are those people who become leaders by birth in that they are not even aware that they can become great leaders but born with the qualities of leadership ( Avolio, 2005).For instance, traditional leaders were not trained but became leaders simply because they believed the can make it and because the qualities were inborn they managed. These people always stood up for change but they faced societal thinking that they cannot make. In addition these people were not aware what leadership was but there was a driving force which made them to stand out and become leaders. Leaders should have altitude that they can make it out to be great leader and believe in themselves.

Many people believe that that decision maker who have competence and performs well in a situation has got leadership skills. Many leaders and managers find themselves in a field that they have no idea about them and due to the commitment and believe that they can make it find it easy to survive in their jobs. To perfectly match in these positions they seek more education to acquire more skills on that particular field. Every individual has a key role to play in an organization to make it successful and should not be left for the leaders. In a situation people tend to have positive attitude toward those people with gifted leadership skill which provides a smooth run in an organization (Rowley, 2007).

In conclusion, leadership skills enable one to become a better person in the place of work. It is of great importance to make use of variety of leadership skills. Great leaders are shaped by situations they are exposed to either in schools or working environment. Various theories have tried to explain where the leadership skills originate in personalities of individual (Lewis, 2008). Some have shown that with the right conditioning of an individual can become a great leader because many people are not born with the leadership skills. Good leadership skills may be acquired through efforts and experience which goes hand in hand in nurturing the talents.
