Leadership and Correctional Reforms

Leadership is the act of leading or taking control of large group of people. Leadership can be found in any institution and also in an organization. A good leader creates positive vision for future development of an organization. Good leader also encourages and also motivates his or her subjects to work towards meeting the vision and mission of the organization or the group he or she is leading. There should be transformational measures which should be put in place in order to make leadership effective. Leadership at local level has been put in the hands of the chief and other local leaders whereby the crimes created by the society members are being neglected. Authoritarian style of leadership is mostly exercised at local level whereby the leaders believe on supervision. This style of leadership has seen to bring most conflict into our society which has therefore called for changes to be done. Corrections have been done at local level whereby laissez-faire style of leadership is being used whereby all the workers have freedom to make decision (Harriman & Straussman, 2009).

According to Mauer (2007) Leadership is very important and very crucial in organizations and also institutions. Leadership style at state level is democratic whereby all the leaders are supposed to share their decisions with other leaders. Reformation and corrections therefore have been done democratically whereby every citizen is allowed to make effective decision concerning the constitution. For instance, the government of United States has ensured that it has invested much on the security purposes and improved the prison conditions. In addition, education has been provided on matters of leadership whereby jail and prison conditions are given the first priority. Transactional style of management is being implemented at federal level to motivate both the leaders and workers to do their best. This is the best correction which has been done at federal level whereby most leaders are being rewarded for their efforts (Harriman & Straussman, 2009).

In conclusion, many states should use democratic style of management because it fits best on ruling the citizens. Democratic style of management allows the leaders to make decisions and come up with a conclusion. Many leaders with effective corrective measures have being employed in state level to ensure that there is agreement made from senior level. Decision making at state level is done in high managerial level and passed to lower level to be implemented. Improvement on infrastructure at state level is seen as a national priory. There has been a training program that has been pioneered to train leaders concerning local and state level to make effective management. It has been witnessed that the best prison condition is found in United States with excellent officers. There should be training that is both short and long to ensure that there are effective personnel found in management (Harriman & Straussman, 2009).
