MGT 500 Week 11: Discussion Sum It Up

Week 11

“Sum It Up” Please respond to the following:

Propose a speech that you would give to a friend in an elevator summing up the contents of this course. You have 30 to 90 seconds to inform your friend of the most important elements. Go!

I would say that if you interested in taking you career in HR to the next level – learning and really understanding the concept of IHRM needs to be an essential piece of that.  Reason being is that most companies are involved with M & A’s, however most HR professionals are not experienced with International M & A’s or when there companies want to begin business overseas.  Questions such as, what is my role, what are the differences are there stages?  These questions are answered in this class

Rate the three (3) most important concepts that you learned in this course in order of importance (one [1] being the most important). Provide a rationale for your ratings.

1.     M&A phases and HR implications

2.     Approaches to staffing

3.     International performance management

The reason that I chose these 3 concepts is because really understanding the phases and how that affects your role as HR and the current internal employees is an important piece.  Another concept was staffing, learning how to prepare internal employees if they are chosen for overseas assignments and if not how do you handle seeking candidates externally.  Last but definitely not least how to make sure you achieve an effective ROI once the job is now in place and being performed.  This was a great class, challenging and very interesting.

There was alot of things that I have learned in this course about global HRM. The two that I could use in my current or future position would be; To train and develop with HR activities the expatriate positiona dn knowledge. My company today beleives that the industry they are in would not promote or be successful in the global market. Becuse of this, they stay only in the U.S., but a global influence would be a good way for them to expand the company even more. I would encourage training and development with HRm and prepare the expatriate for travel. The second application I could use would be to use the knowledge of global HRm in a future position I may apply for. I want to use the knowledge of international assignments, culture, language, and the process of implementing the HRM to get the most out of an international assignment. I have been nominated for the International Scholar Laureate Program Student Delegation on Business. this program provides students with a first hand look into other countries’ business way of life. They teach you how they incoporate business to be successful and do international business in their eyes. Taking this course had given me a understanding of how global HRM plays in other coutnries compared to the United States, and also help me decide if this would be a good career path to follow.

The three best practices that any company can use would be to train and develop the best employees for the assignment, use the HR department in every aspects, and use tools such as compensation and benefits to help encourage recruitment into the international assignments.

I must say that this have been by far one of the best classes I have taken at Strayer!!! Having taken International Business, Sociology, and Sociology of Third World countries; Global HRM will help me understand other countries, cultures, and how business operates within their borders. thank you Prof. Hughes for the knowledge of this course. I have learned how training and development is needed in Global HRm, and how much more I would love to travel to other countries in business, especially with this course taken. Thank you class for all the discussions, thoughts, and challenges within this course. I will be graduating next semester, and look forward to what the world has to offer. I wish you all the best and continue to strive for excellence. Let this course be a guide to help everyone succeed as business leaders in the world of tomorrow.
