The nursing vocation has always been a supporter in allocating community education, health checks and assessment to the public to foster healthful communities. Health promotion was never vital until now. The goal to better the health of all Americans is being lead on by Healthy people 2020. Their target aims to “achieve health equity, eliminate disparities, and improve the health of all groups.” It employ a vital objective for the African American society precisely. In this paper, the wellness and health of the African American will be analyzed. There are five main long term diseases: cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, stroke, and diabetes which result about 2/3rds of all death in United States. African Americans are affected with the most death rates for three of them.

CURRENT HEALTH STATUS OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN

According to research, African Americans have the most mortality and morbidity rate as a result of heart disease than their fellow Whites. Twenty-five percent of all death in the United State was accounted by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) as a result of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in 2013, and CVD was noted to be the leading cause of death within African Americans. Among African American population, females have a greater death rate for CVD compared to men as well as white females. African American females account a 35% increase in death rate for CVD in contrast to white women, whiles African American males comprise just a 7% elevated death rate in contrast to white men (NHLBI, 2012).

African American are also diseased and affected by diabetes at a greater rate. African Americans are two times plausible to be detected with diabetes than their fellow Whites. The damage of diabetes make this groups two times possible to be prone to end-stage renal disease and amputations of the lower extremities.
Another chronic disease stroke, has a higher mortality rate in African Americans. Although majority of the current African American adults, are already impacted with these diseases, the main goal is to target the younger generation as well as the adults with health and wellness education to eradicate or limit the major health concern in this population. This can be achieved through the means of primary preventative care: goal is to avoid illness before its starts.

Teaching about healthy and safe habits (healthy diet, regular workout, not smoking) all falls under primary prevention. However, presentations or community seminars and fairs are valuable ways to influx essential health objectives to a huge society and they can motivate a society formulate better health preference. Trying to enhance health is plainly not sufficient. An individual needs the teachings and assistance to smart decisions, and wellness fairs can create an value details that may reserve lives. Health enhancement and prevention fairs well prepared can reinforce more practical health promotion activities, teachings, and evaluations through primary prevention

CONCLUSION

Health promotion allow people to sustain and take control over their lives. The nursing career plays a vital role in advocating, educating, and supporting various communities to enhance their well being through wellness and preventive measures. A diverse population, such as the African Americans, suffer mainly from specific disease: CVD, stroke, and diabetes. These diseases are caused by unhealthy lifestyles, and factors that can be changed to aid a better health. In achieving this goal, primary prevention is the key preventive measure to reduce and enhance the the major health disparities of the African American population.
