Personal Ethics Development
Ethics is one very important aspect of humanity. Developing and nurturing it is the critical part of it. From the time when someone is young to the time when they grow and mature to be respectable and reliable persons, ethics is their crucial part and role in life. Nurturing it from a young it from a young age is thus very important. The ability to choose and decide between this and that normally involves ethical nature and how they were brought up or even how they understand it. In life, some things might not necessarily be right or wrong so that a person just distinguishes them. Some decisions that have to be made normally involve a lot of ethics and developing it well is very crucial. For a work place or any other place that one might be involved in, several decisions have to be made. Applying all ethical lessons and stands comes to place and play a critical role as asserted by (Kraut, 2007).
For my case, developing ethics has been one procedural aspect. It has involved schooling and life itself. From the day I started school to the level I am right now, i have learnt how to make various decisions in preference over the rest and achieved good and high moral standings in the society. It has supported me a lot when I am in a position where taking a stand is necessary. The main underlying principle of developing these ethics that I have learnt is the ability to judge independently without first taking sides. First, i go through a situation at hand, try to understand why it happened the way it did or why things are happening the way it is. After this take a position that when you try to look back now and after some time, you will still know that you took the right steps and made the right decisions when there was need. Apart from school as earlier stated, life has also been one of the best teacher. There are very many moral issues in the social that require ethical decisions to be able to carefully be chosen over the rest. Society as it is filled of very many things that require a person to choose from. An example is smoking. It is legal, affordable to many and easily accessible. Choosing to smoke over not to require ethical decisions that one will consider. The best metric to measure this is time. After some time, people who use to smoke will likely regret and those who chose not to will never.
Work Places come to appoint where there are very many ethical issues that need to be solved(Langen, 2013). My performance in the work place will be affected in one way or the other by my ethical stands and positions that I take in every decision I take at the work place. There was a time in the work place where two of my fellow workers were having a quarrel on an issue where both of them were trying to outsmart each other. One of them was an assistant manager and the other was just a fellow employee. Everything the employee was trying to do in the company was to prove that he was better than the assistant manager and could out smart him in anything they were doing. It came to a point where the assistant manager realized what was going on and also wanted to show that he was the one in charge. This led to a quarrel. Resolving the dispute at hand was the only way out of this. Basing myself on the ethical issues that I had learnt over the years both at school and life, I stepped in to resolve the issue. My ethical stand point was that the assistant manager was the person responsible and that he was the one to give guidance and orders. Though it might appear to some that I leaned on the assistant mangers side, I think I was right by all means. If a person is good, they should do their work perfectly and be recognized for it. They should not try and proof that they are smarter or better than anyone who is given the responsibility. This became a critical point in my job place that my ethics was put into test and I think I delivered accordingly.
Ethics are very important in any organization, according to (Langen, 2013), for them to run their day to day activities with a clear stand point in many issues that need to be addressed promptly. For an organization, ethics can be categorized into the leadership and employee ethics. The ethics that leaders in an organization use to manage their employees will affect various aspects of them and not limited to their working morale. The code of ethics in an organization determines the discipline procedures and all the acceptable behaviors in an organization. Leaders who have high moral and ethical standards normally motivate and encourage their employees to meet these standards set. In an event of these employees having low, they might also reciprocate this. Ethical leadership enhances the reputation of the company in the financial market and the financial community at large. A good reputation increases the company’s financial standings and thus achieving the goals in the final run. Ethics among the employees on the other hand also ensures that the employees complete the work they are assigned honestly and with integrity. For this reason, employers use the ethical standards and level of employees to judge their overall performance and how they meet the goals of the organization. Ethical employees meet the standards and goals of an organization and thus improving its reputation in terms of quality products and services.
In conclusion, I have learnt through life that ethical standards and good morals are the best for anyone as per (Langford, 1995) and any individual and organization. It has supported me in many situations and thus nurturing it was worth it at the end of it all. These kinds of moral and high ethical stand points and good nurturing have proven beneficial for me and beneficial for me and everyone that takes it into consideration and natures it.
