PSY 302 Week 5 Journal

Identify at least three strategies that you can implement today to increase your level of success in the situation you most identify with.

The first strategy that I can implement in order to increase my personal level of success that I most identify with is by contesting negative thinking and consciously encouraging positive self-talk. There is an old saying that says don’t let fear or insecurity stop you from trying new things. Believe in yourself. Do what you love. Also, if you don’t believe in yourself, who will? Negative mindsets and negative talking have the ability to beget negative actions and outcomes. According to a study done on disability and rehabilitation, it shows that personal supports and personal stress become significantly more negative for claimants than non-claimants, indicating that employers must recognize the impact of the individual’s subjective appraisal of their personal circumstances. It is, therefore, crucial that people who are experiencing stress are encouraged to adopt self-supporting behaviors and are supported to protect themselves against negative behaviors such as destructive beliefs and damaging appraisals of their circumstances. It is also crucial, however, that such training is provided in the context of a supportive workplace and a supportive social setting (Kendall & Muenchberger, 2009). This means that the impact of our own perspectives about circumstances can have a major impact on the process and outcomes of objectives, and that positive environments and positive people around can give individuals more positive perspectives.

The second strategy that I can implement in order to increase my personal level of success that I most identify with is by monitoring my workload incompatibility. Workload incompatibility happens whenever the amount of work that an individual has to complete happens to be beyond the capability of the worker. Most people whether it is at the workplace or life in general are constantly putting more on themselves than can comfortably be handled. In a situation where some of your fellow co-workers may have called out put more strain on the individuals that are working, or some of the employees just may not be carrying their part of the weight at the workplace. During these types of circumstances, it causes stress and can be difficult for the workers to deal with. Situation such as this need tending to in the primary occurrence, however the best counsel is to manage it the exact instant it becomes obvious, immediately. A strategy to help with this can be to let it be known that I am beyond my capable limit, and that if everything is to be done effectively and in an orderly fashion a bit of relief is necessary.

Third strategy that I can implement in order to increase my personal level of success that I most identify with is by preventing role ambiguity. Role ambiguity takes place when an individual has trouble understanding their responsibilities, functions, and roles (Youssef-Morgan & Noon, 2017). Programs can be implemented to open clear lines of correspondence while building optimism among colleagues. There additionally can be a making of a worker handbook with a reasonable set of working responsibilities for every job and a set of predictions, objectives and deadlines for goals. These systems can be implemented and communicated to fabricate an organized work environment that can endeavor without role ambiguity.

Why do you think these strategies can work for you?

This may be short and simple, but my reasoning for believing that the three strategies that I presented that can implemented today to increase my level of success in the situation that I most identify with is because of positivity. I am a very optimistic person and many people admire me for this characteristic and it makes people attach to me because of my encouraging and nurturing spirit. The downside to this is that there are a lot of times that negative people cross my path, but it comes with the territory. I desire to be around positive people and try to remain in positive environments with individuals that have similar goals as myself.

What strategies could you utilize to increase someone else’s happiness level and assist them in increased success based on our content?

I feel that an essential strategy that should be utilized in order to increase someone else’s happiness level to assist them to increased success is to set goals that are both challenging and meaningful. Also, at this stage is when setting priorities comes into play. Time must be spent genuinely thinking about what is most imperative to the group, and a rundown ought to be made of top needs of the group. An acknowledgment should then be made among the whole group about inquiries such as what do we have to begin and stop doing? What would it be a good idea for us to keep doing more of and do less of? Alongside with what should be done differently within the group. The rundown of priorities can then be taken and transformed into physical and appraisable goals. The establishment of each prominent team is a course that empowers, situates, and draws in its individuals. Teams can’t be propelled if they don’t understand and know what they’re progressing in the direction of and don’t have clear-cut objectives. Those objectives ought to challenge the team, yet not be troublesome to the point that the group winds up discouraged (Haas & Mortensen, 2016).

The second strategy utilized in order to increase someone else’s happiness level to assist them to increased success is by getting them to realize how vital it is to forgive others and let go of grudges and hard feelings. When it comes to holding grudges and not forgiving others it can cause a domino effect. There are times when people that you are holding grudges against can be a vital part to your life and your success in life. During times when not wanting to forgive someone and grudges are held it can prevent progression on different levels. Someone once told me that holding grudges against someone is like allowing them to live in your heart rent free. A strategy that can be utilized to help others to forgive and release those grudges can be to hold counseling sessions. During these session methods can be taught on how to work with things such as practicing empathy, remembering times when people forgave them for things that they did, and realizing that forgiveness is a process that people have to go through.

The third strategy that I will reflect on that can be utilized in order to increase someone else’s happiness level to assist them to increased success is practicing healthy habits such as a balanced diet, adequate sleep, and regular exercise. Since I started being more health-conscious back in December of last year, I have come to believe and know that health is wealth. When bad food choices become a constant habit, it causes the body to become unbalanced from the head down to the toes. No exercise and bad eating habits only makes matters worst. This causes bad health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure joint issues and even cancer just to name a few. When battling issue such as this overtime they can alter your lifestyle, causing a person to not be able to reach a level of success that they could possibly have if they were in a better state of health. Some strategies that I would suggest would be to make healthier food choices, and also get together with groups and play sports or do group activities for exercise.

Overall, consider the past five weeks of content. What do you think are two of the most important factors that will be applicable to you and your current goals? What about to your future goals? Why or How?

Two things that I feel are important factors that will be applicable to my future goals are the power of positivity and my ability of being a transformational leader. There is expanding proof that positivity can predict productivity, just as various other alluring results in the workplace, such as work fulfillment and organizational commitment. Various studies over many years of research have additionally exhibited that energy from individuals’ capacities as a powerful indicator of execution (Youssef-Morgan & Noon, 2017). Pertaining to transitional leaders, according to Deepika Dabke (2016), “Transformational leaders tend to display a high level of confidence and self-esteem to inspire their subordinates to share a common vision. As a result, subordinates may get drawn to the leader and develop a relationship with him, characterized by respect and admiration” (p. 36). These things are achieved with communication between the leader and the subordinate. In return this will likely produce motivation in the followers to become better, as well as produce motivation in the leader the leader to become better also.
