My Own

Hattie L IsaacMy Own” (poem about nature) As I stepped into the tall wet grass, the memories come back like a recording in my head.Oh, how I hate the feel of the wet moist dirt between my toes and in between my flip-flapswhen I was young and didn’t understand the reasons behind the wonder of it.My heart longed to find a dry place, a place where memories wouldn’t linger, and pain wouldn’t restand cause wouldn’t give a reason to make me question the existence of why I was there. Can a mind so tender feel the wonder of the earth and its luster, its soft breast pressing on my mouth,Inviting me in to taste the warm milk of its reality, filing me with the nectar of its yearning? The touch of the warm sun and the wind blowing toward the north and south and back again,Making me run so my mind can deter the memory of its reason to nurture the leaves and to moisten the ground with its splendor. Take me somewhere, dear dream, to where I feel no more of this loneliness. Where my heart can’t feel sadness and the questions can’t take over the stillness in my heart. Feed me love and give me my own. For I cannot share this longing with another who has never shared with me and no not my hurt. Give me peace. Center me in wisdom so I may hide in your bosom where only a child may find comfort.Give me protection and shelter me with honesty and compassion. Give me my own. For I long for it.And for you.

It Only Took A Moment

It only a moment to wash away a lifetime of strengthIt only took a moment to tear away the soul of what could beTo wash away a memory of growth and endurance,It only took a little time.To wash away memories of hard work and sweat, Bleeding hands for a hopeful harvest.Long nights of restless sleep and long days of struggle and triumph. It only took a moment to cut into the heartIt only took a moment to spread and travel afarIt only took a little time to run and move and placeA sadness for loss that will take sometime to replaceIt only took what it wanted and left the rest to dieIt only took a moment to trace a lifetime of creation. It only took a little time.

Science 101

Although I tried I could not see, the clues the experiment was showing me.I could not define what was in my mind on paper for my science instructor to see!I skipped a step without some help, I was lost in a world of confusion.I burned my hand, turned over the pan, and ruin the floor and table,I tried and tried to reread the guide, but to understand it I was not able.I tried to do the best I could, but to succeed I did not pass,I promised myself if I made it through I would never take another science class! To my surprise, I made the grade and clicked my heels in glee! But my happiness was short-lived as I viewed my next class.Science 103!H L Isaac

When Earth’s Last Picture is Painted

When Earth’s last picture is painted and the tubes are twisted and dried,When the oldest colors have faded, and the youngest critic has died,We shall rest, and faith, we shall need it – lie down for an aeon or two,Till the Master of All Good Workmen Shall put us to work anew. And those that were good shall be happy: they shall sit in a golden chair; They shall splash at a ten-league canvas with brushes of comet’s hair. They shall find real saints to draw from – Magdalene, Peter, and Paul; They shall work for an age at a sitting and never be tired at all!And only the Master shall praise us, and only the Master shall blame; And no one will work for the money, and no one will work for the fame,But each for the joy of the working, and each, in his separate star,Shall draw the Thing as he sees It for the God of Things as They are!By Rudyard Kipling
