In Chapter 6: The Environment – Part I, Hite and Seitz (2016) note that pollution and global warming were an important concern of the first world conference on the environment that was held in Sweden in 1972. Principle 6 of that declaration stated that we must stop the release of pollutants and heat that cannot be effectively processed by our environment (Declaration of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. 1972. Chapter 11. p. 2.

Thinking about the different types of pollutants and heat that cannot be effectively processed by our environment, which are the most critical to address? Identify three pollutants you consider to be the most critical to address and explain why you believe they are most important.

A pollutant is a substance that is introduced into the environment and causes unwanted effects on the environment. Pollutants greatly affect the environment and this has over the past years been a topic of concern in the high organizations. The United Nations has held numerous conferences to see how this great problem can be reduced so as to save the world we live in.

According to research pollutants are of four types and they include; stock pollutants, notable pollutants, fund pollutants, and light pollutants. The three most critical pollutants in the discussion include stock, light, and notable pollutants since they have adverse effects on the environment since they cannot be absorbed by the environment, unlike the fund pollutants which can be moderately absorbed by the environment.

Stock pollutants have a low rate of absorption on the environment hence over a long period of time they will accumulate in the environment and this greatly affects the environment. Due to the low absorption rate by the environment, there will be more accumulation and this, in turn, causes an increase in the damage that they cause in the environment. The reason why they are hard to address is that they have a low absorption capacity by the environment and they mostly are organic pollutants.

Light pollution is the effect of anthropogenic light on the visibility of the night sky. It is caused by excessive and misdirected light on the earth’s surface. Light pollutants cause a great side effect of urbanization and this causes deterioration of health, disruption of the ecosystem and spoiling the aesthetic environment. This pollutant is hard to address since even carefully used light causes an effect on the natural conditions of the world.

Notable pollutants are mainly gases that are manufactured or that are after products in a factory. These pollutants have a great effect since they affect greatly affect the ozone hence causing climatic change and they cannot be controlled whatsoever the case.
