What is computer literacy and why is it important to be computer literate?

BusinessDictionary.com defines computer literacy as the basic hardware and software (and now Internet) concepts that allows one to use personal computers for data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic communications. To me that means simply just knowing how to complete tasks using a computer.

Computer literacy is essential to being employable because more and more companies are becoming dependent on computers.

What are some ways technology has affected society?

It is impossible to explore how each new advanced technology has impacted our lives and how it will impact the future. (Ramey, 2012) Some of the ways technology has affected society include communication improvements because we now use technologies like mobile phones to communicate with each other. According to Wu, “Since the arrival of new technologies, population has suffered a massive increase in morbid obesity, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes”, meaning we are becoming more idle and that is causing health concerns. Wu also says that while technology isn’t the only cause of some of these changes, scientists have demonstrated that is is a driving factor. While there are some of these negative examples, “technology has helped health facilities and aiding in the research for solutions for most health problems which affect humans” (Ramey, 2012)

What are some ways you might use technology in your career?

It is very possible, according to Roshni, that I will be able to work remotely from home or on demand due to to the “proliferation of laptops, tablets, and smartphones.” I will likely have to use technology to fight technology just trying to keep information secure. Additionally I will be using techology to advance my skills and be better in my career.
