Techniques and Tools for Managing Data

Data is valuable to any organization thus keeping it secure and in a form that is accessible when needed is paramount. Data must be correct when it is being entered into a database for its usefulness in the future. Management needs to know data storage is a cost the organization thus; they should budget for the similar when it comes to assigning funds to different departments.

Some of the consequences that managers face from not investigating the costs that are associated with the information system of the firm are making wrong decisions, more time taken to make a decision, poor information flow, more workload and poor management of information. Poor data management leads to losing of treasured information which could help the organization to make a well-informed decision (Fan and Bifet, 2013). More time is wasted in trying to manage the data, which causes a slow and poor flow of information, in return workload becomes more, and information management becomes hard. All these minor problems cause a permanent poor decision-making structure which leads to failure of an organization in the long run Data collection is expensive thus; management needs to attach some value on data collection and administration so that they get the right and accurate data.

The system that my company utilizes business intelligence (BI) system to manage the data. It is very effective as it can handle large data and turn it into valuable information that can be used for business competition purposes (Power et al., 2015). However, I think Oracle database management system (DBMS) would be a better option as a result of its capacity to handle significant data that are very complicated. An example of such data is from human resource data, accounting, and customer support systems. Oracle database management system can share the data and information processes with interested parties (Kwon, 2012). It is preferred more because of its speed it works faster than any other data management tool. Also, it has the capacity to be upgraded using SQL Performance Analyzer and detecting unrequired changes in real time through change management pack. Oracle database management system is more secure and cannot be easily hacked. Most organizations which involved data sharing uses Oracle because of the security feature.

Various data management tools have been implemented in organizations, but individuals can also use them for decision-making purposes. Database management system is the best system for a person since he can use it to interpret accounting data. Everybody use finances, and thus, accounting is an integral part of human beings (Gollmann, 2010). Therefore, in consideration of management of data, Oracle database management system is the best to adopt for both individuals and companies. It is because of the diversity in the capacity of this tool.
