The Right to Protest – Please respond to the following (use paragraphs to separate responses):

Identify a recent protest from the past 3 months.

Describe the issue or issues that were protested, who the protesters were, and what their actions were.

Explain and discuss if there were counteractions, such as counter-protests, retaliation, or extra security visible during the protest.

Do you think the government, universities, or businesses have the right to censor protests (threaten protesters with legal action or disciplinary action for protesting), or set limits on protests (including social media) such as where and when protests can happen by citizens/students/employees?

2017 was the year of many protest from political to peoples rights but the one protest that I will like to speak on would be the black lives matters protest. The real issue of this protest was for the black community voice to be heard. The main reason for this protest is to stop police officers from killing unarmed african americans. Although I did realize that most of the killings that police officers were doing were towards african americans but many may disagree. The black lives matter movement actions was suppose to be a peaceful movement until others got involved.

During the black lives matter movement and protest other counter-protests started to form like white lives matter. This protest wasn’t suppose to be a racist thing but it got out of control and more security started to form as well. This protest became the battle of the racist and honestly I was so upset about that. The black lives matter started to become a violate protest when other counter-protesters started to get involved like the KKK. So the need for extra security was necessary in my opinion.

No I dont think that the government or any other organization should have the right to censor protest. We are all human beings with the right and freedom of speech. The government or other organizations don’t have a problem using the media for their advantage so why can’t we speak up or use the media to protest our concerns with society. Everyone should be heard and that’s just another thing for them to take from us.
