Opiate use is at an all time high in the United States. In addition, opiates are being so abused that opiate addiction is now considered an epidemic. Nursing theory gives Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) a foundation to help address these concerns and Evidence-based practice provides a proven pathway to follow. In this PowerPoint the following will be presented;An overview of the issues regarding opiate use and abuse and the responsibility of APN’s in regards to prescribing opiates to patients.An overview of Martha E. Rogers’ Theory of Unitary Human Beings and how it can serve as a framework for Evidenced-Based Practice.An application of Roger’s theory to the Advanced Practice Nurse’s practice of caring for their patients in pain, preventing abuse, and help in prescription of controlled opiates.
