Today’s workforce is diverse and has multiple conflicting priorities. As a nurse leader, you would like to see your hospital implement an outreach program that will benefit needy members of the community. What are some methodologies of communication you would use to develop a shared vision with your stakeholders? How would you apply strategic management to make your visions for the outreach program become reality?

In today’s diverse healthcare industry, managers and leaders have to be masters of communication. Strategic management, communication, mediation, and persuasion are some of the primary skills a leader must possess and studies have shown that the most important variable in leadership is communication between the leader and their supporters (Huber, 2014). As a nurse leader, the best approach to communication with ones stakeholders is through strategic planning (Huber, 2014). First, one must identify a vision and purpose to the implementation of the program. What does one expect to accomplish? Next one must set objectives by defining who, what, when, and where of the plans to be implemented (Huber, 2014). Next one must develop an implementation strategy by asking oneself how the financial and considered objectives will be met; implementation, and evaluation (Huber, 2014).

Know who the audience is, so the plan can be focused. Today’s healthcare industry is all about evidenced based knowledge and practice. If I wanted to see my organization implement an outreach program, I would use strategic management and communication techniques by utilizing written and face-to-face communication techniques. I would use an executive summary to present to the stakeholders, and then develop a presentation based on fact, logic, and evidenced based knowledge, and how this would be of benefit to the organization as a whole.
