WEEK 3 “What Is Motivation?” Please respond to the following:

Watch the video titled, “Puzzle of Motivation” (18 min 36 s).  You can also view the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrkrvAUbU9Y.  Next, explain what approaches organizations can take to motivate their employees other than pay incentives. Explain the main reasons that these other incentives may motivate employees and justify your response.

Employees will leave an employer if they do not receive recognition and are offered opportunities to learn and grow even if they are well paid. Managers have to find new methods of motivating their employees. Motivation gives employees an extra push to keep them striving to achieve goals in the workplace. It is very important for managers to learn who their employees are to understand what is needed to motivate the employee. Employees need to feel effective in their duties. Employees expect to be acknowledged for a job well done. Motivation from management allow employees to benefit by experiencing greater job satisfaction and achieving company goals and in turn the company benefits from greater productivity.

COMMENT: I worked for an agency that was supposedly going through a financial hardship which caused furloughs and a hiring freeze. Of course no raises were given during this time. The office manager would allow staff to wear jeans on Fridays and during the holidays since most of the time staff dressed business professional. During staff meetings she would give team player awards to employees who have gone over and beyond for coworkers and customers during that month. Comp time was also given with the team player award. Staff could use comp time instead of using personal, sick, or annual leave. These are only two examples of small motivation efforts management used to compensate staff not receiving monetary compensation.
