Consumer Protection Laws
Consumer protection laws are a federal state and statue governing sales and credit practices concerning consumer goods. At times business people can exploit the consumers in terms of prices of items and the quality of products offered in the market place. Also in places where safety and public health is an issue such as food, there are those conditions that must be met. For this reasons there is need to have consumer protection laws which will be in a position to curb such malpractices.
Generally, consumer protection laws are meant to fight back against abusive business practices. This is made possible through placing consumers who are average citizens involved in business deals such as buying goods or taking loans on an even position with distinct industries or those involved in business deals regularly. The government has come up with different consumer agencies which vary in terms of the consumer remedies that they handle. These agencies are set up to curb and regulate misleading advertising and sales practices, product quality, credit financing and reporting, debt collection, leases and any other issues that arise in consumer transactions(Geraint & Stephen, 2005 )
Indeed the consumer protection laws are fundamental and effective. This is because the consumer product safety commission has done everything possible in the United States by enacting mandatory safety standards for various products in the country. Moreover, the consumer product safety commission has maintained consumer hotline through which consumers can make their grievances about any unsafe products or injuries that result from the products. This way, the law has been effective since, the consumers can reach these agencies easily, manufacturers and suppliers try as much as they can to ensure that they follow the set laws to avoid penalties and other consequences that arise from such misconduct.
