Summary:
The value of analyzing performance data can help whole school districts because the data is just not used in the classroom. As this data is being analyzed, it can be used to improve the testing system that a school district is using or the curriculum in the classroom . As for when a teacher is looking over the students data to make sure that their performance data is improving and not declining. By looking over the students data the teacher will be able to know if they can move on to the next lesson or go back over and reteach the lesson.
According to what Fuglei says in her article, “administrators use that information to address curricular or teaching insufficiency, teachers can use knowledge gap information to identify subjects where they might need to devote additional teaching time, and to create individual assessments”. Therefore, what Fuglei is saying the influence instructional planning has on gaps and patterns is that the teachers sees what they need to either go back a reteach or change up how that subject is being taught. When teachers sit down to plan they will go over the test data in order to see how to approach the gaps and patterns.
How the best practices that I have stated in my presentation that will help inform the instructional planning would be to put in the plans how the teacher will go over each agenda, by explaining each lesson, explaining why there will be progress monitoring, teaching the students how to self-assess their work, and how to help students to set their learning goals. When the teacher makes materials and ideas available to the students, it helps the students become more independent.
How the learning gaps and patterns addressed in a classroom are by going back over the lesson or lessons the student does not understand or cannot pass the test. When a student is always having difficulty on tests, this could be that the student does not know what is being asked of them, or they might not know how to read the material. When the material was presented to them, they might have just walked through the work with the class but not being able to understand it.
How the learning environment has an influence on the students’ confidence in learning independently is by having learning tools around the room for the students to look at when doing their work. By having learning tools posted around the classroom for the students to reference their work, the teacher when teaching can show the students how to use the learning tools to do their work.
How does inquiry and the development of higher-order skills promote student engagement and motivation to learn? The first thing is to make sure why the students need to know what higher-order skills are. When students know how to develop skills to help them to learn will help them to be more engaged and motivated to learn more.
