COM 180 Conflict

Good morning Colleagues,

I would like to thank you for coming to the meeting yesterday. Customer appreciation plays a significant role in the success of this company.

I enjoyed hearing your ideas, Jane and Damian. Kenneth, I noticed that you were more interested to what was on your cellphone than the meeting. Steve tried to get you involved in the discussion, but you just gave a short response. It seems to me that you were social-loafing and not intentionally listening. In our next meeting, can you please put away your cellphone to minimize the distractions. I have some tips to help you improve your active listening skills. Respond to whoever is speaking with questions to help you understand their ideas. To show that they have your undivided attention make eye contact with them. Jane, I notice as soon a Rachel spoke you were irritated. You kept over talking her and shutting down her ideas. Steve asked you if you had any ideas, but you avoided the question. You said you were trying to keep us on track. On track for what? The goal of the meeting was to brainstorm ideas to show our appreciation to the customers. By your body language and tone of your voice it seems that you have a personal issue with Rachel. If this is the case it is affecting your ability to be a team member. In our next meeting please show empathy to whoever is speaking. You also need to work on being an active listener. By being good at active listening, I have learned to not interrupt someone when they are speaking. I let them finish what they are saying. Paying attention to my body language and the tone of my voice helps the other person become comfortable when speaking to me.

Thank you for hearing my opinion on how the meeting went. If you have any questions or comments, please email or call me.

Best Regards,
