Academic Goal

By pursuing my education further, I would like to obtain my degree Bachelor of Science in Health Administration.

In one concise sentence, write a professional goal stating what you wish to accomplish professionally through the completion of a degree.

Professional Goal

During the completion of me of my degree I plan to get a job in the health care field, so I can land a job as a medical biller or coder and work my way through the ranks to have the career of managing a nursing home.

2. Goal Setting

In 200 to 250 words, discuss the following:

•How does setting goals lead to success? Using areas identified by your ACES assessment, discuss specifically how you will improve these areas through the use of specific, measurable goals.

Setting goal can lead to success because you are putting a plan together and acting on it, this requires you to gather information about yourself, next is to set your SMART goal, third make an action plan, then list barriers, last act and evaluate outcomes. This allows me to stay on track and accomplish my goals in small time fragments, so I can reach my goal. Reading and connecting with others is where I scored lowers than the others. I made a schedule, so I can read and take notes. Having a reading schedule has been very helpful. I noticed that I am more proficient when I have a schedule to follow versus reading when I feel like it. this schedule also allows me to spend time with my family. I also work fulltime, and I can watch my daughter and treat her to the things she like. For connecting with others I chose to connect with other student in my class as well as my instructor just to clear things up. Whenever I have questions I can ask other classmates or instructor for help or feedback. This will ensure that I have a clear understanding of what is required of me as a student.

3. Communication

•How might effective communication (oral and written) help you advance in your education and your career? How is integrity a component of successful communication in academic and professional life?

•What communication skills are preferred or required in the careers you researched during this course?

Having effective communication can help me advance my career and my education by being able to convey a message clearly if it is verbal or typed. I must remember to keep my feeling in check and remember that we are all different. When there is a difference then that’s when I can do my homework on other cultures. Always making sure my body language matches the message that is being received. Integrity is a very important part of my career and my academic life having honesty when communication is key in both worlds. Putting my education first before I go on a date or family outing. I know this is my education and I want to get the best out of it. This mean cheating is uncalled for. Cheating can only get you so far you might have the degree but what skill are you going to have if you do not have the knowledge. If I am going to manage a nursing home that means I will be involved with trainings, work schedules and even dealing with medical data. This means I will be communicating at all levels. Problem solving skills is also needed to communicate in the work place as well as college.

4. Information Literacy

•What are at least two university resources you will use to ensure academic success?

•How does using credible resources, both in the library and on the Internet, relate to academic and professional success?

The two university resources that I will use to ensure my academic success is the university library and ProQuest to help me when I am researching. Creditable sources such as the library and on the internet relates to my academic and professional success. with the right research I will be able to provide information to my class as well as in my career if I have the right information. When researching you are gaining knowledge for and author, journal or even magazine. Having the proper research allows you to be creative and you are binging additional information to others around you. Just having these two resources alone has a vast amount of information. The best thing about getting information form here is that everything has a source. Using ProQuest is the best it even cites your sources for you. You can copy paste it into your reference page. You have the options to have your sources in APA format, Chicago and even MLA. We must remember that all things on the internet are not always true. We as students want to avoid plagiarism remember to give credit when it is needed. We always need a reference page when you have sources to cite. Learning to research, and use creditable resources is preparing me for my future because learning to speak well and write allows me to have better communication skills.

•What has been the most challenging aspect of adjusting to life as a student at University of Phoenix? What has been the most rewarding aspect of the learning environment?

•How does Grit and Growth Mindset apply to your learning experience or future career goals?

The most challenging aspect of adjusting to the University of Phoenix is making sure I balance my time between work family and college. Sometime things do not go as planned in your life and you my get a little of track. I have 24 credits already that has taught me to make a time schedule. This allow me to be a productive worker as well as a student here at the University of Phoenix. The most rewarding aspect of our learning investment is find things out about ourselves that we did not known before. It seems like all my life I have been overcoming obstacles. I noticed that I went form a fixed mind set to and open mind set. Before I would communicate one-word answers. Now that I am older I can process things differently I know that I can improve in all aspect of life. I know now if I stick to my schedule I will be able to accomplish my goals that are long term. I have the courage to follow through the confidence to get my work done. I can be creative. I know if I can apply it to my school life that I can also be successful in my career. Having this information has allow me to become more efficient in my life.
