Hypertension was the main cardiovascular disease that I majored on. Hypertension or better known as high blood pressure is said to be a blood pressure reading of 13080 mm Hg or higher. Hypertension is into primary and secondary blood pressure. Through research over the past years statistics have it that 90% of hypertensions are primary which are caused by a certain lifestyle and genetic factors. The certain lifestyle that can lead to an increase in the blood pressure include excess salt in the diet, gaining of body weight, smoking and drinking of alcohol. The remaining 10% according to statistics fall under secondary caused hypertension which is due to identifiable causes like endocrine disorder, the use of birth control pills and chronic kidney disease.

The black population are said to have the majority of people suffering this cardiovascular disease. It is also said that the black men have the highest rate of hypertension followed by the women. It has also been documented after research that in the coming years the number of people who will be suffering from hypertension will increase twice or even thrice the current number of people suffering from the disease currently.

According to beliefs it has been cited that there is a significant difference in mortality between Africans and the whites meaning more Africans die due to hypertension cases than the whites. It is believed that Africans poorly control hypertension hence they have the major percentage in this situation of poor control of blood pressure. It is also said that Africans will mostly likely not adhere to prescribed therapies unlike the whites. Poor communication among some Africans is also believed to be a factor that hinders them to get good care hence they will end up suffering from this disease leading to their deaths.

Since hypertension has become a more common disease with the reasoning that out of 3 people 1 person must be diagnosed with hypertension it then has direct and indirect cost to the economy of the society and greatly of the country since the country must budget for the production of the drugs needed and the equipment needed to treat those suffering from that disease.
