WEEK 1 “Individuals and Change” Please respond to the following:
Give an example from your current place of employment or your last place of employment when a change was implemented well versus when a change that was not implemented well. Explain the scenario in each example and why the implementation was either successful or not. Compare and contrast the differences between the implementation of the change.
Management advised the staff during our staff meeting that they would be placing a suggestion box in our break room for employees to place suggestions into. The intended plan was for management to review suggestions from staff to implement solid suggestions for improving employee morale, productivity, and to advise plans to meet office goals before the end of the fiscal year. The suggestion box was placed in our break room and suggestions were place in the box but the staff never received any feedback from the suggestions management collected from the suggestion box. This left the staff with a feeling that management is really unconcerned with the atmosphere in the office and achieving office goals. Changes were never implemented from suggestion box and management did not implement any changes of their own. We did not pass goals for that fiscal year. Since that time a new management regime has been instituted and we have passed every goal set and morale has slowly increased from seeing that our management team will jump in with the lower staff to help meet office goals.
COMMENT: My place of employment has the same issue with morale and meeting office goals. You are absolutely correct in stating that we all have a common goal and should work together as a unit. I do believe that management can set the tone for the atmosphere and management must implement and enforce needed changes to achieve better results.
